IT'S OFFICIAL: NOVEMBER ELECTION CANCELED

 Last week, at a special meeting of the Sierra 
Madre City Council, a decision was made 
to appoint the only three residents who 
actually submitted candidacy papers for the 
previously scheduled November election.

 According the City Clerk Laura Aguilar, 
only four Sierra Madreans actually 'pulled' 
nomination papers to run for the council 
and of those, only three people actually 
turned the papers in before the mandated 75 
days prior to election day deadline.

 As a result, the council held a special 
hearing pursuant to state election law, 
officially canceling the election and appoint 
the three applicants who submitted their 
nomination papers before the deadline. It is 
estimated that by doing so, the council saved 
the city approximately $60,000.00.

Elections Code Section 10229, which was
