SIERRA MADRE EDITION SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2017 VOLUME 11 NO. 8 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AUTHORITY CLINICAL EXCELLENCE AWARD Paramedic Daniel Arellano Engineer Ted Walters Paramedic Phillip Tibbs Firefighter Ashot Kglyan Sierra Madre, CA. – February 21, 2017 The annual EMS Awards honor and recognize exceptional acts and service by individuals working or volunteering in California’s emergency medical system. On November 8 th , 2016 the Emergency Medical Services Authority announced the 2016 EMS Award Recipients; four Sierra Madre Firefighters and Paramedics were recipients of the Clinical Excellence Award. The Clinical Excellence Award recognizes an EMT who provides noteworthy patient care and treatment during the course of their duties. Clinical Excellence Awards are presented to the recipients’ at their home stations. The Sierra Madre Fire Department will present the following individuals with awards at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 28 th , 2017. Paramedic Daniel Arellano Paramedic Phillip Tibbs Engineer Ted Walters Firefighter Ashot Kglyan The four Sierra Madre Fire Department members received the Clinical Excellence Award for belaying down a steep cliff to rescue two stranded individuals who were in imminent danger on July 17, 2015. The two individuals had been hiking Mount Wilson Trail when they went over the side, falling 50 feet and 100 feet. Both individuals were rescued and treated by Sierra Madre Fire Department personnel with the assistance of the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue. RAINFALL UPDATE (From the city of Sierra Madre) To date we have received an average of 23.67” of rain from our 3 rain stations. Sierra Madre has received above normal rainfall this season but the drought is NOT over. Recent rainfall has helped in countering past seasons but it will take several years of above normal rainfall to get us out of this drought. With increased conservation efforts, recent rain runoff, the water spread in our spreading grounds for basin recharge from both Big Santa Anita Dam and our local Sierra Madre Dam we are headed in the right direction. Rain is still in the forecast so be sure to get your free sand bags at the City Maintenance Yard located at 621 Sierra Madre Blvd. , behind the basketball courts. Please bring your own shovel. Photo by: Laura Driscoll 2017 Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Family Campout registration starts Monday, February 27th at 8am in Sierra Madre City Hall, 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. Registration must be made in person and will close Monday, March 20th at 5:00 pm. - Friday, March 24, starting at 5:00pm, Campsites, $60, includes Fishing Derby Contest Entries for four youths. - Saturday, March 25, 7:00am to 11:30am, Fishing Derby Entries for ages 3-15, $13 per youth. - Family Fishing, $23 for family of four.
