Free on-air publicity for local events

 Sierra Madre’s new community radio station is now accepting scripts 
for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. 
PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 
24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.

 Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have 
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre 
Community Information Radio. This new radio station covers the city 
of Sierra Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and 
Monrovia. 

In a nutshell, your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity

• Be open to the public

• Be of general interest to local citizens

Just 
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your 
event and e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com.

Farmer’s Market Is Back!

The Sierra Madre Farmer’s Market new location is in 
Downtown Sierra Madre on Hermosa Avenue, south 
of Sierra Madre Boulevard to Mariposa Avenue. The 
hours will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. during the summer 
with the exception of major holidays. During the winter/
Pacific Standard time the market could possibly 
end at 7:00 p.m.

OCTOBER BARGAIN BOOK SALE AT THE 
LIBRARY 

The Friends of the Sierra Madre Library will be holding a 
Bargain Book Table Sale at the Library, Monday, October 
17, through Saturday, October 22, during the Library’s open 
hours. This month’s featured topics will include Cookbooks, 
Photography and Photo Essays, Fiction, Thrillers, Audio 
Books (tapes and CDs), and books for Children and Young 
Adults. Books are replenished daily, and are only $1.00 
each.

 

The Friends welcome print and audio book and DVD donations 
in good condition. Magazines may be placed on 
the “Free Bench” at the back of the Library, or, if the issues 
have been published within the last 6 months, they can be 
brought to the Service Desk for the Library’s magazine takeaway

in Sierra Madre, is open Monday through Wednesday from 
Noon to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday from Noon to 6 p.m.,

SIERRA MADRE RECREATION SERVICES 
OFFERING FREE ZUMBA OPEN HOUSE

The Sierra Madre Community & Personnel Services Department 
invites the public to come try their newest class 
Zumba FREE on October 24th, 7:15 pm at the Community 
Recreation Center, 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. No advance 
sign-up is necessary for the open house and participants 
should wear tennis or dance shoes.

 

This basic Zumba class is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-
follow, Latin-inspired, calorie burning dance fitness program. 
Updated Fall Zumba session will begin November 
7th (6 weeks) – advance registration and a minimum of 6 
participants required for class to take place.

 

Additional adult and youth recreation classes, including karate, 
tennis, yoga (sunrise & evening), tai chi, soccer, ballet

"FILL THE BOOT" ~ 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29TH

Fill the Boot” event scheduled for Saturday, October 
29th to raise funds for MDA. The event itself will take 
place between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm at the intersection 
of Baldwin Av. & Sierra Madre Bl. and will likely include 
Kersting Ct. Despite significant rain, last years 
event was a HUGE success as we collected just over 
$4800.00 in 5 hours. Come show your support.

Kiwanis Club Offers 
“Healthy Halloween” 
Snacks

If you’d like to give trick-or-treaters a healthy 
alternative to candy, Kiwanis can help! 

The Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club is selling peanuts 
and trail mix in Halloween-size bags, perfect for the 
hungry trick-or-treaters who’ll come to your door 
on October 31st. These healthy treats are being sold 
in downtown Sierra Madre at Podley Real Estate, 30 
N. Baldwin Ave. They’re priced 
at $20 for 50 bags or $35 for 100 
bags. 

Peanut and trail mix sales are a 
fundraiser for the Sierra Madre 
Kiwanis Club. Proceeds will 
provide scholarships for local 
students and support for Sierra 
Madre’s schools and library.
