Looking Into The Life Of A Teenager

By Meaghan Allen

MEATLOAF

Possibly the most well known and made
fun of meal, meatloaf is a family food staple.
Composed of eggs, meat, and anything ranging
from Worcestershire sauce to onions, meatloaf
is the grand concoction of leftover food at its
prime. Growing up, I despised the loaf; the
texture was wrong and the burnt ketchup on top
was unnecessary. Then, years later, my dad and I
created our own version, and I was converted to
the meatloaf lover’s world.

Aside from being absolutely delicious, there
is more to meatloaf; there’s a sense of identity
and family. Having eaten meatloaf at different
households, I’ve come to notice that everyone
makes meatloaf differently, adding different
spices or veggies to the pile, inspiring new flavors
and styles. Because of this, each meatloaf reflects
a person’s flavor palate and a part of who they
are. Heat junkies add jalapenos, horseradish and
cayenne. Sauce lovers like me use breadcrumbs,
BBQ sauce, Worcestershire and tomato sauce to
make sure that the loaf is extra juicy. There is no
wrong way to prepare a meatloaf, unless of course
you burn it, and that’s what I love about it. So get
creative and make your own variation. Discover
your meatloaf self.
