FAMILY MOVIE FRIDAYS
The Family Movie Friday series is back for 2012 thanks to the
generous support of the Sierra Madre Volunteer Firefighters Associations
and the Annes, Harman, Gallagher and Swift families!
All movies are shown in Kersting Court and are absolutely free
for everyone. Movies begin approximately at 7:45pm and families
can purchase food and drinks from the local Sierra Madre
merchants or bring their own! Patrons are encouraged to bring
blankets and chairs for the event.

COMMUNITY YARD SALE
The City of Sierra Madre Senior Community Commission presents
a Community Yard Sale on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 8:00
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. located in the Sierra Vista Park Parking Lot
(611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd.). Community members are invited to
come together with their neighbors to participate in a community
yard sale. Participants have the opportunity to clean out their
garages, attics, storage sheds and closets without sending those
valuable items to landfill.
Fee for a selling space is $25.00; proceeds will benefit senior programs
and activities. Alternatively, you may donate items to the
Senior Community Commission booth to help raise money for
senior programs and activities. If you would like to participate in
the Community Yard Sale, please register online at www.cityofsierramadre.
com/onlineregistration or in person at the Community
Recreation Office 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Deadline to
register is Thursday, May 31 or until spaces are filled.
Participants must provide their own tables, chairs, canopies
(10’x10’ maximum) and cash boxes. No electricity will be provided.
Live animals, large canopies, and selling of food or drinks are
prohibited. All business must be conducted within your space.
Event may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

As part of our club’s lively weekly meetings, dynamic speakers are
scheduled on Rotary’s service interests, local community topics
and general appeal subjects.
Sierra Madre Rotary operates an active high school service group,
the Interact Club, participates in Rotary scholarship, music and
essay competitions, raises funds for local and Rotary Foundation
causes, recognizes exemplary teachers, offers mini grants for
worthy projects, hosts the yearly Elvis in the Park concert and
donates hundreds of service hours to community events like the
Wistaria Festival, Dickens Village and July 4th Parade.

FRIENDS OF THE SM LIBRARY BOOK
SALE
The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are upon us and if you’re
looking for a good book to bring with you to the beach, the
mountains, on the plane, or to that lawn chair under the tree in
your back yard, the best place to find one is at the Friends of the
Sierra Madre Library’s Best Used Book Sale. Held on Friday, June
1, from 3:00-7:00pm and Saturday, June 2, from 10:00am-2:00pm at
the Sierra Madre Library, 440 W. Sierra Madre Blvd, Sierra Madre,
the sale offers high-quality books that have been culled from the
library’s shelves or donated.
June’s sale features a large collection of books about American
Bungalows and the Arts and Crafts movement in home furnishings,
many sports books, including several about the great American
pastime, baseball, and an assortment of coffee table books about
artists and art including a two-volume set of Landsdowne’s Birds
of the West Coast and Georgia O’Keefe: 100 Flowers. A diverse
assortment of reference books from the Library’s reference room and
a collection of Life and Saturday Evening Post magazines in library
bindings are also available. In addition, we have a large number of
contemporary and classic fiction books, current non-fiction books,
children’s classics and pop-up books as well as DVDs, audiobooks,
and collectibles. As always, in the back parking lot there will be
$1.00 books on every subject, together with paperbacks, 5/$1.00,
and children’s books 25 cents each.
Proceeds from the Best Used Book Sales benefit the resources and
programs of the Sierra Madre Public Library. For more information,

SIERRA MADRE FARMERS MARKET
The Farmers Market is open today and every Wednesday
from 3:00-7:00 p.m. The location of the market is on Hermosa
Avenue, south of Sierra Madre Boulevard to Mariposa
Avenue, situated in the downtown area of Sierra Madre.
The market has organic, fresh and locally grown produce.
The farmers market is a great opportunity to come on down
and meet the farmer directly. Dry Dock Fish has fresh and
delicious wild caught varieties of fish. Rustic Loaf has your
artisanal breads baked fresh that same day and brought to
the market. Cutie Pie that has pies made with the fruits of
our organic farmers, make sure you pick one or two up for
desert. There are so many unique and amazing finds at the
farmers market. Come on down to the Sierra Madre Farmers
Market and shake the hand that feed you.

Free on-air publicity for local events
Sierra Madre’s new community radio station is now accepting scripts
for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events.
PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates
24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.
Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre
Community Information Radio. This new radio station covers the city
of Sierra Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and
Monrovia.
In a nutshell, your event must:
• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity
• Be open to the public
• Be of general interest to local citizens

write a Public Service Announcement that describes your
event and e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com.

REGISTRATION FOR 4TH OF JULY PARADE IS NOW OPEN
This year’s 4th of July parade will be held on Wednesday, July 4, at 10:00 am. The parade route will
begin on Sierra Madre Blvd, from Sunnyside to Rancho. There is a $15 fee for all local non-profit
entries and a $25 fee for all business entries. There is no charge for individuals wishing to enter the
parade; however, an application must be submitted.
It is the 4th of July Committee’s hope to make the parade more green and earth-friendly! All participants
are encouraged to come up with creative ideas to support this theme.

GENERAL PLAN STEERING
COMMITTEE MEETING –
SUNDAY, JUNE 3, 2012
The General Plan Steering Committee (GPSC) will hold a special
meeting on Sunday, June 3, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in
the City Council Chambers, 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. At this
special meeting, the GPSC will discuss and review a number of
draft written language items for the new General Plan, including
historic preservation, parking and traffic, dark sky provisions,
economic development, building bulk and mass issues, seismic
considerations for buildings, group living, and identification of
opportunity sites for the land use projection/build-out to be prepared
for the environmental impact report (EIR) associated with
the General Plan.
The GPSC will also assign subcommittees to edit the new General
Plan, create an implementation chart, and recommend revisions
to the land use designation map. The meeting is open to the public
and any public input is welcome. The meeting will also be
broadcast live on SMTV-3 cable (Channel 3 for Time Warner
customers).
