THE REEL DEAL: by Ben Show
SPY REVIEW
Melissa McCarthy has slowly been falling out of mainstream Hollywood,
with several of her past few movies not performing well at
the box office. Is ‘Spy’ a refreshing, new Melissa McCarthy film, of
is it just another to add to a growing list of recent failures?eSusan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) has been doing her job at the
CIA for years: being the voice in the earpiece of some of the world’s
top spies. But when well-known terrorist Rayna Boyanov (Rose
Byrne) obtains a tactical nuke, and learns the identities of all the
active CIA agents, Cooper must get into the field before the world
ends.
Spy’ is a great comedy. Not only are the jokes new and well
thought out, their delivery is just as refreshing. The entire cast does
a great job here with a script that has clearly been fine-tuned to be
a lean, mean, comedy machine. ‘Spy’ may even go down as one
of the great comedy classics, as it is so original and such a great
restart for Melissa McCarthy’s career.

involvement in the community.

As a freshman in 2012 Emily was chosen by The Young
Democrats of America as one of only 48 students in the country
to attend a High School Leadership Academy in Washington D.C.
That same year she also interned for the campaign of Arcadia-
based California Assembly Member Edwin Chau and was a Finalist
in then-Congressman (Republican) David Drier’s Youth Volunteer
Awards.

She was AHS’s Young Democrats Club President for her entire
four-year tenure and volunteered for campaigns ranging from City
Council to Assembly to Presidential. Emily also attended Running
Start’s Young Women’s Political Leadership Program.

Both videos made use of the District’s new drone that was paid forwith money from the Super Bowl commercial shot at Arcadia Highthis year.

Last year’s first AHS lip dub video has generated more than 94,000views in 150 different countries and been watched for more than
4,000 hours.

This year’s lip dub video took several months to prepare.

just five books during the summer can help prevent learning loss.

National research shows that students who participate in librarysummer reading programs score higher on reading achievementtests at the beginning of the next school year than those who didnot participate. According to the Children’s Reading Foundation,
children need to hear and see books from birth. Reading with achild 20 minutes every day develops critical brain connections thatdetermine future growth and learning! According to expert Colleen

D. Multari, LMSW, research also shows that reading aloud to youngchildren is not only one of the best activities to stimulate languageand cognitive skills; it also builds motivation, curiosity, and memory.
