ARCADIA HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND TO PERFORM AT 2017 ROSE PARADE

On Friday at the Arcadia High homecoming
football game a surprise announcement was
made at halftime that the AHS marching
band has been selected to perform in the
2017 Rose Parade. A video message from
the Rose Parade President on our new
video scoreboard announced the band’s
selection, then the Rose Parade President
and his staff made a brief presentation to
our band directors.

Following the presentation, the band
which consists of more than 300 students,
performed. It’s always a great performance
that encompasses the entire football field.
Most of the band parents, and a large crowd
were on hand for the game and surprise
announcement.

Being selected to march in the Rose Bowl
Parade is a very prestigious recognition.

“Alverno High School is incredibly proud of these young women
and their academic achievements,” said Julia V. Fanara, Head of

academic ability among these young women, but also a strong
commitment to academic rigor, currently and in the future. Alverno
is thrilled to have expanded our current AP program to include AP
Chemistry and AP United States Government and Politics this year.
With this new curriculum, we look forward to offering more young
women the opportunity to advance in college-level courses while
enjoying and benefitting from the small classroom environment
which Alverno provides for all of its students.”

About Alverno High School

Alverno High School is a Catholic, private, college preparatory
school for young women dedicated to preparing them to function
in a society as informed, knowledgeable persons, who have the
requisite skills to make and implement mature decisions about
complex problems. Enlivened by the spirit of its Immaculate Heart
Community sponsors, and mindful of the Franciscan roots of
its founders, Alverno’s program—academic, spiritual, aesthetic,
social, and physical—is shaped by the staff, trustees, and students
in light of the world for which the students are being educated.
Alverno’s mission is to empower each young woman to be exactly
the person she wants to be and since 1960, Alverno has empowered
more than 4,500 women to meet that goal. For more information

THE REEL DEAL:

by Ben Show

MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS

‘The Maze Runner’ was not one of the post-apocalyptic,
dystopian series directed at teens that I read. In fact, even after
seeing the first movie and having the plot holes filled in by someone
who did read the book, I still was not interested in the series.
The characters were bland, the plot was ludicrous, and the dialogue
was laughable. Does ‘The Scorch Trials’ improve upon the
series at all?

Now out of the maze, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his
friends are taken in by mysterious people who own a massive
military base in a desert called the scorch. When they discover
that the people protecting them are WCKD, they escape and
must face the dangers that live within the scorch.

‘The Scorch Trials’ is my least favorite movie of all time.
The plot is ridiculous and never makes any sense, the characters
are even more bland than the first movie, and the dialogue
makes ‘Transformers’ look like Shakespeare. When this film tries
to make an event that happens symbolic of something happening
in society now, it goes about as well as a kindergartener trying
to use vocabulary from the SAT. This film is bad and not worth
anybody’s time. If you have a couple hours to kill, find anything
else to do than going to see this movie.
