CHINESE NEW YEAR PLANNING MEETING 

Arcadia Public Library is looking for assistance in planning this year’s Chinese New Year celebrationfor children and their families. Every year, APL hosts a well-attended Chinese New Year event. Community

ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER 


For the period of Sunday, September 17th, through Saturday,
September 23rd, the Police Department responded to 948 callsfor service, of which 90 required formal investigations. Thefollowing is a summary report of the major incidents handled bythe Department during this period. 

Sunday, September 17:

At about 11:56 a.m., an officer responded to Jack in the Box,
166 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a welfare check on amale subject who was screaming. The officer contacted two 
subjects and an investigation revealed a 49-year-old male fromArcadia was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was 
cited, transported by Arcadia Fire Department and released tothe care of Arcadia Methodist Hospital personnel. The othersubject had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was inpossession of fraudulent credit cards. The 29-year-old malefrom Temple City was arrested and transported to the ArcadiaCity Jail for booking.

Around 4:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area ofEast Santa Clara Avenue and North First Avenue regardinga subject yelling. Officers made contact with the subject anddiscovered drug paraphernalia on his person. The 41-year-oldmale from Long Beach was cited and released at the scene. 

Monday, September 18:

At approximately 12:15 a.m., officers responded to LAFitness, 1325 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding an activationof an Arcadia Police Department GPS tracker. Arcadia PDdetectives had previously deployed decoy bicycles containingtracking devices to combat the increase in bicycle thefts aroundthe city. An investigation revealed a 56-year-old male fromArcadia took the bicycle and fled the scene. He was locatedwith the bicycle, arrested and transported to the Arcadia CityJail for booking.

Just after 4:58 p.m., an officer responded to a residence inthe 300 block of East Norman Avenue regarding a burglary.
An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) entered thehome through an unlocked garage, stole two bicycles and ahelmet, and fled undetected. No witnesses were located. The 
investigation is ongoing. 

Tuesday, September 19:

At around 8:53 a.m., an officer responded to the front of aresidence in the 1600 block of South Holly Avenue regardinga theft report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspectstole the victim’s leaf blower from the front lawn while he was 
working in the backyard. The suspect is described as a bald,
heavyset male, 30-years-old, wearing a white t-shirt and longdark shorts. He fled the scene in a black four door sedan. 

At approximately 11:54 p.m., an officer responded toWestfield Santa Anita, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regardingthe report of a stolen vehicle. The victim parked his HondaCivic in the parking lot around 3:00 p.m. and returned to find itmissing. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
Officers from the El Monte Police Department recoveredthe vehicle and returned it to the victim early Wednesdaymorning.

At approximately 11:47 p.m., an officer conducted a trafficstop on a vehicle in the area of Rancho Road and OrangeGrove Avenue for an equipment violation. An investigationrevealed the driver was in possession of stolen property witha value exceeding $950 and a large amount of marijuana. The40-year-old female from Canyon Country was arrested andtransported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Wednesday, September 20:

Just after 8:31 a.m., an officer responded to the front counterof the Arcadia Police Department, 250 West HuntingtonDrive, regarding the report of an assault. The victim reportedto the officer that she met with her ex-boyfriend to discuss thestatus of their relationship when he punched her and pulledher hair out. This occurred in his vehicle on Second Avenue. 
The investigation is ongoing. 

Thursday, September 21:

Just before 6:32 p.m., officers responded to the ResidenceInn, 321 East Huntington Drive, regarding an armed robberythat had just occurred. An unknown suspect approachedthe front desk, brandished a handgun at the employee anddemanded money. He fled the scene with the money in anunknown direction and out of sight. The suspect is describedas a 40-year-old male, medium build, 5 feet 8 inches tall with adark mustache. 

At about 10:56 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the area ofNorth Santa Anita Avenue and Foothill Boulevard regardinga solo vehicle traffic collision. Upon contacting the driver,
the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting fromthe driver. Through a series of tests, the officer determinedthe 75-year-old female from Arcadia was driving under theinfluence of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect was arrestedand transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Friday, September 22:

At approximately 12:30 a.m., an officer responded to KungFu King Restaurant, 558 Las Tunas Drive, regarding a subjectrefusing to leave. Upon contacting the 51-year-old female fromArcadia, the officer noticed symptoms of alcohol intoxicationand determined the suspect was unable to care for herself.
She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail forbooking.

Around 7:30 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the600 block of Santa Maria Road regarding a fraud report. Aninvestigation revealed the victim received a bill from Verizonin an amount exceeding $500. An unknown suspect obtainedthe victim’s identifying information by unknown means andused it to open a Verizon account without his permission. Theinvestigation is ongoing. 

Saturday, September 23:

At approximately 1:30 p.m., an officer responded toCoach, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a grand theftreport. Employees witnessed two suspects grab 8 pursesbefore fleeing from the store in an unknown direction. Thepurses totaled $6,500 in value. Both suspects are described asmales, 20 to 30-years-old, with a thin build. The investigationis ongoing.

Just before 2:00 p.m., officers responded the 100 blockof East Camino Real Avenue regarding an activationof an Arcadia Police Department GPS tracker. ArcadiaPD detectives had previously deployed decoy packagescontaining bait property and tracking devices to combat theincrease in package thefts from residential areas. Officersfollowed the tracker to a Jack in the Box in El Monte. A 
62-year-old male from Rosemead along with a 32-year-oldmale from Temple City were found with the stolen packagein their vehicle. The driver was driving without a license andhad an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was issuedcitations and released at the scene. The second subject wasarrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

section of the overall Monrovia Renewal project 
has begun! Monrovia Renewal is the City’s multi-
year initiative to address needed repairs and 
make system-wide improvements to our water, 
sewer, street, and sidewalk infrastructure. And… 
we are now working in the Northwest Section of 
the project, which is the area of town bordered 
to the north by Hillcrest Boulevard, to the south 
by Colorado Boulevard, to the east by Myrtle 
Avenue, and to the west by the western limits of 
the City.

Please note that as part of the planned work,
there are three (3) stages for the constructionactivity. Those stages include:

If underground work is required to repair a wateror sewer pipeline beneath your street, this will takeplace prior to the concrete or street repairs.

 Concrete repairs to curbs, gutters, and drivewayapproaches will take place next.

Street repairs occur after all other work hastaken place. Streets slated for repairs receive oneof four treatments: a new top coat (slurry seal);
minor crack / gravel repairs and then a new topcoat (cape seal); a whole new top layer (mill andoverlay); or the street is removed to dirt and fullyreconstructed.
