SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

AUGUST 2, 2018 — YARD SALE (VARIETY) CARS 3 (G)

For the period of Sunday, July 15th, through Saturday, 
July 21st, the Police Department responded to 1,007 calls 
for service, of which 120 required formal investigations. 
The following is a summary report of the major incidents 
handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, July 15:

 Shortly before 12:48 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic 
stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Second Avenue 
and California Street for driving recklessly. The officer 
located the vehicle as it was speeding and almost hit the 
officer’s vehicle. Upon contacting the driver, the officer 
detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his 
breath. The 43-year-old male from Arcadia was arrested 
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Monday, July 16:

 At approximately 12:12 a.m., an officer responded 
to the 800 block of West Duarte Road regarding a mail 
theft report. The victim found her mailbox lock had been 
damaged, mail was missing, and a new credit card had 
been stolen. No suspects were seen and no witnesses 
were located. 

 Just after 10:37 a.m., officers responded to the 500 
block of North Old Ranch Road regarding a residential 
burglary report. An investigation revealed a rear window 
had been broken sometime between July 11th and July 
16th. No loss was report but the suspect left behind 
clothing and multiple documents containing personal 
identifying information. 

 As the officers drove away, they located a transient. The 
transient identified the clothing as his own and admitted 
to breaking the window. The suspect was transported to 
Arcadia Methodist Hospital for evaluation.

 At approximately 4:20 p.m., an officer responded to 
24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, regarding a 
shoplift report. Surveillance footage revealed the suspect 
stole a backpack, and then placed stolen headphones in 
the backpack before he was confronted by employees. 
The suspect was on probation at the time so he was 
placed on a hold. The 18-year-old male from Arcadia 
was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for 
booking. 

 Around 6:01 p.m., an officer responded to a residence 
in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive regarding 
a package theft report. The officer determined an 
unknown suspect stole the victim’s package sometime 
between July 9th and July 10th. No suspects were seen 
and no witnesses were located. 

Tuesday, July 17:

 Just before 3:15 a.m., an officer responded to a 
residence in the 800 block of South Golden West Avenue 
regarding an attempted robbery report. An investigation 
revealed two suspects approached the victims as they 
parked their vehicle in the garage and demanded that 
they opened the door. The victim began honking the 
horn and the suspects fled on foot. 

 The suspect is described as a male, possibly black, with 
a hooded sweatshirt pulled up over his head and the 
hood was pulled tightly around the suspect’s face. The 
suspect was approximately 5’8” tall, with a thin build, 
seen wearing gloves, and carrying an unknown object 
in his right hand. The second suspect was wearing a 
hooded sweatshirt. The investigation is ongoing. 

 At about 4:30 a.m., an officer responded to a carport 
in the 100 block of California Street regarding a vehicle 
burglary report. The officer discovered an unknown 
suspect smashed two windows and fled with a wallet 
containing cash and gift cards amounting to more than 
$1,800.00. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were 
located. 

Wednesday, July 18:

 Shortly after 12:50 p.m., officers responded to a 
residence in the 00 block of West Last Flores Avenue 
regarding a burglary in progress. The suspects pried off 
a window screen, entered the residence, and the resident 
who was home at the time was able to escape out a side 
door. The suspects were seen exiting the home through 
the front door and entering a green or grey Mercedes 
Benz sedan. 

 Both suspects were described as black males, 18 to 
25-years-old, and wearing hooded sweatshirts. The 
investigation is ongoing. 

 Before 8:59 p.m., an officer responded to the 1000 
block of Sunset Boulevard regarding a grand theft 
report. The victim stated he made arrangements with the 
suspect to exchange clothing at the victim’s home. The 
suspect asked to try on the victim’s clothing and once he 
was in possession of the clothing, he fled to an awaiting 
vehicle. The suspect is a 16-year-old male from Arcadia. 
The investigation is ongoing. 

Thursday, July 19:

 Around 4:35 a.m., an officer responded to the 00 block 
of West Huntington Drive regarding a robbery report. An 
investigation revealed the victim was intoxicated when 
he was robbed at gunpoint by four suspects. The victim 
was able to identify one of the suspects as a 19-year-old 
male from Monrovia or Duarte. The investigation is 
ongoing. 

 At about 9:09 a.m., an officer responded to a residence 
in the 400 block of West Live Oak Avenue regarding an 
attempted burglary report. Surveillance footage revealed 
three suspects smashed a rear window, entered the 
home, and for an unknown reason, became spooked and 
fled on foot. No loss was reported. The investigation is 
ongoing. 

 Just before 12:07 p.m., an officer responded to a 
residence in the 600 block of Beverly Drive regarding 
a battery report. The officer discovered an altercation 
occurred between a boyfriend and girlfriend resulting in 
the boyfriend kicking the victim in the head and slapping 
her causing visible bruising. The suspect 25-year-old 
male from Arcadia was gone by the time officers arrived. 
The investigation is ongoing. 

Friday, July 20: 

 Shortly after 2:49 p.m., an officer responded to a 
residence in the 700 block of Encino Drive regarding 
a fraud report. The victim discovered a fraudulent 
transaction on his Discovered card for the amount of 
$3,886.79. The victim does not know how the suspect 
obtained their personal information or the identity of 
the suspect. 

Saturday, July 21:

 At approximately 12:41 a.m., an officer responded to 
the Santa Anita Race Track, 285 West Huntington Drive, 
regarding a robbery report. An investigation revealed the 
suspect stole the victim’s gold chain from his neck. The 
16-year-old male from Altadena was located, arrested, 
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 


The City of Arcadia’s FREE 2018 summer concert 
and movie series is approaching fast, so make sure 
you don’t miss out on the fun! The summer concerts 
and movies are both on Thursday evenings. Concerts 
start at 6:30pm and movies at dusk on the west lawn 
between City Hall and the Police Department (240

menu includes a large variety of delicious items

given to the Recreation and Community Services

PUBLIC INTELLLECTUAL DEBATE OVER THE TRUE 
LOCATION OF ANCIENT KAPILAVASTU

The public is invited to an intellectual debate over 
the true location of the Ancient Kapilavastu where 
the Lord Buddha lived for the first 29 years of his 
life, to be held August 4, 3-5 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 
2436 Huntington Drive, Duarte. The Honorable 
Consul General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles, 
Swarna Gunaratne, will be the featured guest. 

 Debater The Venerable Dr. Karunananda, 
Theravada Buddhist monk, affirms that Kapilavastu 
is now Piprahwa (Ganwaria) in India. 
Debater Dr. Sunil Jayasinghe claims that Kapilavastu 
is actually the neglected ruins of Tilaurakot at the 
foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal.

 Dr. Jayasinghe is a resident of Bradbury and 
the former director of the now-defunct Duarte 
Outreach Center. He has traveled the world and 
recently has devoted his energies to convince 
the United Nations Educational, Scientific and 
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to recognize 
that Kapilavastu in Nepal is the childhood home of 
The Buddha.

 The public is welcome. Admission is free.

Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested

July 19 at 8:53 a.m., a caller reported a homeless male 

and female subject fighting next to Library Park in 
the 300 block of S. Myrtle. When officers arrived, they 
contacted both subjects. An investigation revealed 
the couple were married and had a domestic violence 
restraining order against one another. The female subject 
had hit the male subject multiple times, causing injuries. 
She was arrested and taken into custody.

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested

July 19 at 10:30 a.m., a caller reported a homeless male 
subject lying across a sidewalk in the 100 block of W. 
Foothill. Officers responded to determine if the subject 
needed medical care, but found him to be heavily 
intoxicated and unable to care for his own safety. He was 
arrested and held for a sobering period.

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested

July 19 at 9:02 p.m., security for a store in the 500 block 
of W. Huntington called to report they were detaining 
four subjects for shoplifting. Officers arrived, and after 
conducting an investigation, they arrested and took 
the four subjects into custody. The stolen property was 
returned to the store.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested

July 20 at 4:58 a.m., a caller reported a suspicious person 
loitering in the 300 block of W. Huntington. Officers 
arrived and contacted the subject, who was found to 
be in possession of a pipe that had been used to smoke 
methamphetamine. The subject was arrested.

Grand Theft – Suspects Arrested

July 20 at 10:01 a.m., security for a store in the 1600 
block of S. Mountain called to report a female subject 
had just fled their store with power tools and had not 
paid for the merchandise. They advised she entered a 
black vehicle driven by a male subject. Officers arrived 
and stopped the vehicle as it was leaving the parking lot. 
After investigating, both subjects were arrested and the 
stolen property was returned.

Traffic Collision / DUI – Suspect Arrested

July 20 at 9:26 p.m., a caller reported two vehicles had 
collided at the intersection of Ivy and Olive. Officers 
responded and contacted both drivers. One of the 
drivers was found to be intoxicated. After field sobriety 
tests were conducted, he was arrested for DUI.

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested

July 20 at 9:34 p.m., a caller reported a male subject was 
lying in the middle of the streetin the 500 block of S. 
Myrtle. Officers arrived and contacted the subject, who 
was found to be heavily intoxicated. He was arrested and 
held for a sobering period.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested

July 21 at 1:26 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 1500 
block of S. Mayflower when he saw a bicyclist commit a 
violation of the rules of the road. He stopped the bicyclist 
and discovered he was in possession of a pipe that had 
been used to smoke methamphetamine. The rider was 
arrested.

Traffic Collision / DUI – Suspect Arrested

July 21 at 2:03 a.m., a caller reported a motorist had 
just collided into a curb in the 300 block of W. Central. 
Officers responded and contacted the driver. The driver 
was intoxicated, and after field sobriety tests were 
conducted, he was arrested for DUI.

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested

July 21 at 2:35 a.m., a caller reported seeing a man 
lying on the ground in the 600 block of S. Ivy. Officers 
responded and located the subject, who was found to be 
too intoxicated to care for his own safety. The subject was 
taken into custody.

Possession of Narcotics – Suspect Arrested

July 21 at 5:27 a.m., a resident in the 2000 block of S. 
Myrtle reported a suspicious male loitering on the street 
in front of her house. Officers responded and contacted 
the subject. He was found to be in possession of cocaine 
and was arrested.

Vehicle Burglary

July 21 at 8:37 a.m., a resident in the 800 block of 
W. Duarte walked outside her home and discovered 
someone had burglarized her vehicle sometime during 
the night. Several personal items were stolen. This 
investigation is continuing.

Shoplifting

July 21 at 2:35 p.m., an employee of a store in the 700 
block of W. Huntington reported that two male subjects 
entered her store, took merchandise from a shelf and ran 
out of the store without paying. Officers searched the 
area for the subjects, but were unable to

locate them. This investigation is continuing.

Burglary / Criminal Threats / Brandishing a Weapon – 
Suspects Arrested

July 21 at 10:42 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of 
W. Central reported she was having a dispute with 
her neighbor. Officers arrived and contacted both 
subjects. After investigation, it was discovered one 
subject forced her way into the other’s home and 
made criminal threats while brandishing a knife. The 
suspect was arrested.

Traffic Collision / DUI – Suspect Arrested

July 22 at 3:16 a.m., a resident in the 2000 block of S. 
Myrtle reported a motorist had just collided into a curb 
in front of her house. Officers arrived and contacted the 
driver, who was found to be intoxicated. Field sobriety 
tests were conducted and the driver was arrested for DUI 
investigation is continuing.
