9 FOOD & DRINK Mountain Views-News Saturday, April 6, 2019 TABLE FOR TWO by Peter Dills thechefknows@yahoo.com TOP SHELF STEAKHOUSES IN THE AREA? YOU BET! The standard here in the San Gabriel Valley area for Steak Houses is certainly the Arroyo Chop House in Pasadena, top-flight steaks that is for sure. When I go to a steak-oriented restaurant most of the time I am asked is it as good as The Chop House? While I think they are very good often I can make that “perfect” steak at home. Just this past week I went to the Flemings Steak House on Colorado and really really liked it! They offer a special for $53 that includes a filet and a lobster tail, I am not talking about the Sizzler size lobster this one was legit. This week I am visiting the The Derby in Arcadia, results are forthcoming. My friend Roger Mendez says top shelf or third floor when he wants a good brand name drink when he is at a bar. Reader Bob might think I have lost my mind, but friends and readers we are moving to the high rent district today. It took me a few years to figure it out and maybe just in time. When you are at a supermarket looking for your favorite wine and frustration sets in look by price, the most expensive wines are on the “top shelf” and the bottom shelf is usually where you’ll find lowest prices and you’ll find me somewhere in the middle. Hopefully that has served you well for the past few years. One of my favorites all time Champagnes is Taittinger, now the prices fluctuant faster then gas prices. Look for it around the $45 at your favorite supermarket and about $20 by the glass at your favorite restaurant, MI Piace and Parkway Grill are my go to spots. Hope you hit the lottery and can enjoy the good life!! Please tune in every Sunday Morning to Go Country 105 FM and then right after the Angel Game I am on AM 830 KLAA. *Proceeds will help fund the Creative Arts Group “Imagine Art Program” benefitting the students of Sierra Madre Elementary School and other youth activities.
