 Director's Award

The Sierra Rose Float Association has done
it again! The all volunteer group won the
2019 Tournament of Roses Parade's prestigious
Director's Award for "The most outstanding artistic
design and use of floral and non-floral materials".
This is the 13th win for SMRFA out of the last 14
entries into the internationally known parade.

In addition to Sierra Madre Princesses Lydia Plaut,
Kate Parry and Tess Perkins adorned in traditional
Japanese attire riding on the float, volunteer Saeko
Kujiraoka played the Koto a traditional Japanese
instrument along the parade route.

The 2019 Parade Theme is "The Melody of Life" and
"Harmony's Garden" is the 2019 Rose Parade float
entry. The inspiration for this design is our very
own Japanese Garden (Goodwill Garden) located
on the campus of the Sierra Madre Elementary
School. Designed by Jason Redfox.

President Barb Bevington is beaming with pride
and expressed her appreciation for the volunteers
and Sierra Madre Community's support. During
Deco Week, the Sierra Madre Rotary Club, The
Only Place In Town, The Mountain Views News/
Kensington Senior Living, The Sierra Madre
Kiwanis Club and Christ Church (formerly
Congregational Church) provided dinner for the
volunteers each night. Photos courtesy SMRFA
