BETHANY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS:
“THE SOUND OF MUSIC”
Bethany Christian School middle school students performed the musical The Sound of
Music to full houses on April 21 and 22, 2023. It was the school’s first middle school's
musical since the pandemic and was warmly received. This heart-warming show was directed
by Mr. Daniel Northrop, music teacher at Bethany Christian School.
The show starred Samuel Byrnes as Captain Von Trapp, Caelyn Foster as Maria, and Lucy
Crabb as Mother Abbess, Liliana Patterson as Liesel, Kiera Tkach as Louisa, Lila Pearson
as Brigitta, Danielle Choi as Marta, Elise Jakobsen as Gretl, McKinnon Alden
as Freidrich, Mathias Jakobsen as Kurt, Isla Stach as Max, Emma Spinelli as Frau Schmidt,
Deann McKellop as Sister Berthe, Lexi Adams as Sister Sophia, Joseph Torres as Franz,
Sebastian Angelina as Herr Zeller, Nathaniel Behzadi as Von Schnider, Beckett Gohrick
as Rolf, and Grant Beck as Elberfeld.
The ensemble included Emily Flores, Mila Soltero, and Lucy Varvel. Audiences enjoyed
show favorites such as “Do Re Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Every Mountain.” Sets were
made by middle school students under the direction of art teacher Rica Rudio. The crew
included Ben DiGillio, Emma Crossen, Eva Magallon, Luke Hanrahan, Nathan King, Julia
Patterson, and Jaylyn Sayegh.
The show, written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.

2023 SCHOLARSHIP
Annually, the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association
is proud to award a scholarship to a qualified college-
bound student or college freshman who meets the following
qualifications:
1. Applicants must currently be a student in or just completing their senior year of high
school or be a college freshman with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
2. Applicants must have been active in one or more Sierra Madre Rose Float Association
activities such as fundraising, design, construction, decorating or as a past or present float
rider.
An application form must be completed and returned with unofficial transcripts. Two letters
of recommendation are also required. An official transcript may be requested at a later
date.

BOARD OF EDUCATION PRESIDENT TO DELIVER
2023 STATE OF SCHOOLS
Pasadena, CA — Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Education President
Michelle Bailey will deliver the 2023 State of the Schools on May 18, 2023, at 6 p.m. at
John Muir Early College Magnet High School (1905 N. Lincoln Ave., Pasadena).
The annual speech about the state of PUSD schools will include the status of the District’s
finances, student achievement, and goals for the future.
The PUSD Board President is required by the Pasadena City Charter to deliver a State of
the Schools address each year.
Interpretation into Spanish and ASL will be available.
The State of Schools will be streamed live at www.pusd.us/stateofschools and aired on
District’s KLRN-TV (Ch. 95 on Charter Spectrum and Ch. 99 on AT&T U-Verse).
