Statements on the Passing
of Senator Dianne Feinstein
Five Acres Celebrates its
35th Annual Golf Classic
‘Homecoming Tailgate’
Rep. Judy Chu released the
following statement:
“Senator Feinstein was
a trailblazer, a proud
Californian, and a relentless
legislative titan. From
banning assault weapons
to protecting reproductive
freedom to uncovering
human rights abuses by our
own government, her legacy
is unmatched and her firsts
too many to enumerate.
Her career inspired me and
countless other women in
California and across the
country to serve in public
office and take others
through the doorway with
us. My deepest condolences
go to her family and her
beloved San Francisco.
“May her memory be a
blessing.”
Rep. Adam Schiff released
the following statement.
“Today, the nation has
truly lost a giant of the U.S.
Senate, California has lost
its trail-blazing leader, and I
lost a real friend and mentor.
Senator Dianne Feinstein was
one of the finest legislators
we have ever seen, and her
accomplishments made our
country and world a better
place.
“The Senator’s legacy is
unmatched.
“Senator Feinstein single-
handedly pushed an assault
weapons ban over the finish
line, and never gave up her
fight to end gun violence.
She fought powerful agencies
to investigate and uncover
torture – and made sure
it would never happen
again. She helped protect
California’s natural beauty
and preserve its lands for
generations. And she always
fought for LGBTQ rights and
women’s equality throughout
her career.
“My thoughts are with
Senator Feinstein’s friends,
family, and staff at this time,
and my heart goes out to
them. California and all its
citizens are truly indebted to
the Senator and her family
for her decades of service.
We are all better off for her
dogged pursuit of policies
that made our country a
better union.”
Los Angeles County
Supervisor Kathryn Barger
released the following
statement:
“Dianne Feinstein was a
powerhouse if I ever met
one. Her depth of knowledge
was incomparable, she
understood the complexities
of every issue.
I had the honor of receiving
her endorsement when I first
ran for L.A. County Fifth
District Supervisor in 2016.
Our paths initially
crossed when our county’s
Department of Health
Services was on the brink
of collapsing. She was
instrumental in working with
the Clinton Administration
to obtain a waiver for Los
Angeles County so that we
could direct dollars from our
public hospitals to outpatient
care. That was a game
changer – not only for our
county, but for the healthcare
industry in general.
She will be greatly missed.
Senator Feinstein was always
a class act.”

Parks & Public Works
Annual Tree Maintenance with Mariposa Landscaping
Earlier this week, Mariposa Landscaping completed the
removal of 19 dead trees in the public right-of-way that were
approved for removal by the City Council earlier this month.
This work is part of the City’s Multi-Year Tree Maintenance
and Planting contract. The City seeks to balance public
safety with preservation of the City’s urban forest, and only
removes trees when the tree is no longer viable and there
is no other option except removal. Additionally, Mariposa
will begin their annual grid pruning of City-owned street
trees on October 9th, in the portion of the City from Lacy
Park north to City limits and east to Sierra Madre Boulevard
(see map for details). This annual tree trimming will ensure
resident safety and preserve the City’s aesthetic beauty.
Fire Department Recent Happenings
On Wednesday, September 26 the San Marino Fire
Department provided an In-Service, fire life safety training
for the staff of Huntington Middle School. The training
included bleeding control, use of tourniquets, automatic
external defibrillators, CPR and live fire training. The Fire
Department previously provided training to Carver staff on
September 12. Training for Valentine and San Marino High
School staff is scheduled for October.
Meetings
Design Review Committee Meeting
Wednesday, October 4 at 6:00 PM; Barth Room and Zoom.
Five Acres 35th Annual Golf
Classic: “Homecoming Tailgate”
led by Co-chairs Danny Reaume
and Joey Reaume was held
September 18. The collegiate-
themed golf tournament was
followed by an auction and
dinner that all took place at the
San Gabriel Country Club.
Five Acres Board Chair Sue
McGuirl welcomed guests at
dinner, and introduced the
Reaume brothers. “These men
dedicate their time, energy, and
resources to Five Acres when
they are already busy with their
own work and ever-growing
families. Danny and Joey, we’re
thankful for your involvement
and for helping Five Acres care
for other families and children
in our community.
With 106 golfers and 150
guests in attendance, golfers
had a chance to enjoy on-course
activations like Don Francisco’s
carajillo station and tailgate
food items, with games of corn
hole to take a break during the
daytime tournament. Guests,
on the other hand, could bid
on activities such as a duck
hunting trip, a Cabo vacation,
a Mammoth trip, and a paella
dinner and cocktail-sipping
experience.
Some notable moments of the
event’s program consisted of a
cocktail hour in the evening,
an awards ceremony, DJ, tasty
libations, and an opportunity
drawing that featured a bar
cart with an assortment of 20
wines and spirits, including
a Don Francisco’s gift basket.
Inspired by a tailgate barbecue,
guests feasted on a combination
plate of pepper-crusted tri-tip
with Burbon demi glaze and
blackened salmon with mango
salsa served on a cedar plank,
accompanied with roasted
fingerling potatoes, seasonal
vegetables, gourmet breads and
butter, and a dessert station with
churros, brownies and lemon
bars.
Many guests wore high school
letterman jackets or college
football team logos to represent
the school spirit theme, making
unexpected connections with
other attendees.
