“When a pirate’s only pleasure is her god-forsaken
treasure,
And she’ll go to any measure, sailing any
stormy weather
For a pirate never flounders with her booty
that she’s plundered. Buried eight feet
under…”
The picture today is of Lucia Allen, mistress
of pirate captain Pierre Lafitte. She accompanied
Lafitte on many a pirate voyage and
raid and could swing a cutlass with the best
of her pirate crew. She was wild and wily!
She burned and sank many a treasure ship
as she prowled the seven seas. She buried all
her treasure and to this day no one knows
where. Ah, but even the most blood-thirsty
pirate grows tired of the sea. She left these
last words behind…
Oh, bury me far far from the sea,
I want to rest on land.
Mountains, desert, I won’t complain,
As long as it’s far from the Bounding Main.
I’m at rest here in grass,
I see flowers and trees.
No more salty sea foam for me.
My minions still serve me,
Awaiting my needs,
They bring me my hats
And guard all my jewels,
Keep them safe from thieving fools.
My pearls once graced
Queen Isabella’s Spanish neck,
And my bracelets are diamonds and gold.
I’m ready to tell a tale that will scare you,
When Halloween comes at last.
And then when it’s past…
I’ll sleep in this lovely green grass,
Where I can see flowers and trees.
No, indeed, my friends, no more salty sea
foam for me!
Scarecrow contest voting is going on right
now, friends and neighbors and if you’ve

a terrific idea, don’t let it get away from you!
We had the most incredible time last Saturday
looking at the eclipse. We actually had
the right thing to look at it with!! Glasses
from Walmart at $1.78 each. We made numerous
trips outside to see how it was coming
along and this was an absolutely awesome
sight. We’re keeping our glasses safe and
where we can actually find them as there will
be another eclipse next April.
I have actually never seen an eclipse before
as the only viewing article I had was a 3 x 5
card with a hole punched in it and I never
saw a thing! There was news coverage all
over the Nation starting in Oregon and moving
across the country as the day progressed.
Once again, all I could think was that God
has arranged amazing things.
The Mountain Views News is full of so much
useful information about what to do about
bears visiting you and my hope is that no one

Here’s a nice thought to close with about
smiles: A smile costs nothing but gives a lot!
A smile brings rest to the weary, cheer to the
discouraged, sunshine to the sad and is nature’s
best cure for trouble. Sending all of you
a happy almost Halloween smile!
