HONORING THE 
MEMORY OF SOLDIER 
EDVIN F. FRANCO,

SCHOOL CLASS OF 
2018

Earlier this week, the names were released of the 
four U.S. soldiers who lost their lives last week in 
Lithuania while conducting a training mission. 
Unfortunately, one of the soldiers was a Monrovian. 
Edvin F. Franco, a proud member of Monrovia 
High School's Class of 2018, lost his life during 
a training mission. 

Edvin's dedication to service, sacrifice for our 
country, and his bravery will not be forgotten. Our 
thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who 
knew him, as well as with the loved ones of the 
other fallen soldiers. 

On behalf of the City of Monrovia, we extend our 
deepest condolences to the families of their loved 
ones lots and express our deepest gratitude for 
their sacrifices.

FATAL ARCADIA CAR ACCIDENT

 A man was killed this morning when the sedan in which he was a 

passenger apparently crashed into a light pole near an Arcadia 
intersection.

 The crash occurred at about 2:20 a.m. Friday on Baldwin Avenue north of Arboretum 
Way at the Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Garden, according to an Arcadia Police 
Department press release.

 Video from the scene showed a crumpled car tangled up with a downed light pole and 
Arcadia firefighters putting a drape over the passenger side. Paramedics pronounced the 
passenger dead at the scene, police said.

 The man driving the car was taken by ambulance to a hospital to be checked for a complaint 
of pain and possible minor injuries, police said.

 The police department's Major Accident Investigation Team was investigating the cause 
of the crash, officials said. Anyone with information was asked to call Arcadia Police at 
626-574-5151, case number 25-1367.

ALTADENA FIRE DEATH TOLL RISES

Human remains connected to the Eaton Fire have been discovered in Altadena, raising 
the death toll to 18.

A six-member Special Operation Response Team from the medical examiner's office responded 
to the 900 block of Boston Street, near Lake Avenue, on Wednesday, and determined 
the remains were human. 

According to the department, ientifying who the remains belong to "can take considerable 
time.''
