Dream Hotel by author LailaLalami. A 19-member selection
committee led by Senior
Librarian Christine Reeder
and made up of communityvolunteers worked for manymonths to determine this year’sOne City One Story honoree.
Now in its 24th year, OneCity, One Story is designedto broaden and deepen anappreciation of reading andliterature and to promote
tolerance and understanding
of differing points of view by

The Dream Hotel is a rivetingand utterly original novel about
one woman’s fight for freedom,
set in a near future where even
dreams are under surveillance.
In this dystopian novel Sara isdetained by agents from the RiskAssessment Administration

Eerie, urgent, and ceaselesslyclear-eyed, The Dream Hotelartfully explores questions
of freedom, technologicaladvances, and whether eventhe most invasive forms of
surveillance can ever capturewho we really are.

 Laila Lalami is the author
of five books, including TheMoor’s Account, which wonthe American Book Award, theArab-American Book Award,
