Supervisor Kathryn Bargerannounced that she had attended
the Pasadena Jewish Temple
and Center Commemoration
Tuesday evening, standing insolidarity with the community
as it marked the one-yearanniversary of the loss of itssynagogue in the Eaton Fire.
She issued the followingstatement, reflecting on thoseshared moments:
“Today is not only a
remembrance of what was lost,
but a recognition of the resilienceof a community that has chosenfaith, connection, and hope inthe face of profound loss.
The destruction of this
synagogue was felt far beyondits walls, touching the entireAltadena and Pasadena
community. Sacred spaces likethe Pasadena Jewish Temple

they are anchors of belonging.
Rebuilding is about restoring agathering place where traditionsare carried forward and future
generations are shaped.
As recovery continues, mycommitment remains clear: to
stand with survivors, removebarriers to rebuilding, and
ensure the process is people-
centered and responsive to
what residents need to heal. It
is an honor to stand with this
community today and every stepof the way.”

Pasadena Neighbor Dayand Nextdoors co-founder
Russell Mark says “the
main event at Wild Parrot
has become a wonderful
tradition and centerpiece tothe event. In 2025 the dayalso served as a de-facto
Eaton Fire day of healingand community support,
featuring several bands
booked pre-fire who losttheir homes but still rallied
and played the show, becausethey felt it was important
to feel some normalcy.
Never was the importanceof knowing your neighborshighlighted more – knowingwho may have a disability,
sensitive to breathing issues,
lacking a car, working nightswith pets at home alone –
all these things suddenlybecame vital in a potentiallife or death scenario.”
Wild Parrot co-owner
John Jackson says, “a placelike ours doesn’t just lookat success as a ledger book
– our purpose is to bring acommunity together, and
help form closer local bonds,
never moreso than in 2025.
We take an active role in -
from our running club to ourtrivia nights and so muchmore – Neighbor Day fits inperfectly with that.”
The day is also about givingback to the community and
the non-profits that makePasadena a thriving and
unique city. Wild Parrot willdonate to causes close to
their heart – the Pasadena
Educational Foundation and
Pasadena Fire Foundation.
The Nextdoors will donate
a percentage of merch sold,
in addition to raffle ticket
revenue, to the LightbringerProject, producers of DooDah Parade, LitFest, and so
much more. Last year over$1700 was raised for PEF and
Pasadena Symphony’s fire
relief efforts.
Nextdoors co-founder Mika
Larson explains, “all theseorganizations were heavilyimpacted by the Eaton Fire,
and yet rose to the occasion
and were powerful agentsfor assistance, positivity,
and perseverance during achaotic and painful time.
They deserve the supportof our community, and weare excited to offer that in
whatever way we can.

The Pasadena Public Health
Department (PPHD) urgeseveryone to protect themselvesby getting the flu vaccine ascases and hospital admissionsincrease across the nation,
including California. A newstrain of influenza, known asInfluenza A (H3N2) subcladeK, is spreading worldwideand has been detected in
California. Most flu cases
in California that have been
tested are caused by H3N2.
PPHD encourages everyoneto take steps now to protectthemselves and their families.
Everyone 6 months and olderwho has not yet received a flushot is encouraged to get fullyvaccinated.
“Getting vaccinated andquickly starting treatment
if you are sick are the bestways to avoid serious illnessand hospital stays,” said Dr.
Parveen Kaur, Acting HealthOfficer.
It’s not too late to getvaccinated. The 2025-26 flu
vaccine can help preventsevere illness if you catchthe flu. Current influenza
vaccines are expected to offerprotection against severe
disease, lowering people’s riskof hospitalization.
What To Do If You Get Sick:
-Get tested as soon as possibleif you have flu-like symptoms.
-If you are at high risk for
serious illness, consult with
your healthcare providerand start antiviral medicine
right away. Do not wait fortest results. Medicines like
oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or
baloxavir can help you recoverfaster and avoid potential
complications.
-Stay home if sick until youhave been fever-free for at
least 24 hours without usingfever-reducing medication toprevent spread of influenzaviruses.
“As flu cases rise, we encourageeveryone to get vaccinated andseek care as soon as possibleif you are feeling sick,” saidManuel Carmona, Directorof Public Health. “These stepscan help keep you and ourcommunity healthy.”
