So much exciting news this week! Our 2027 Rose Float,
“Barn Dance,” design by Richard Burrow and Deb Ryan,
is going to be absolutely fabulous. The picture on the
front of last week’s Mountain Views News with those
adorable cowboy boots, square dancers and that laughing
pig are going to bring Sierra Madre another prize,
for sure! “The 2027 Rose Parade theme, “Welcome,”
celebrates the joy of belonging, community, and the
warmth of family and friends, extending an invitation to
all. It focuses on inclusion and being seen and valued.”
Another wonderful Rose Parade with the Sierra Madre
float being seen and valued is in our future!

I hope you read Lori A. Harris’s column, “Unlock Your
Life,” here in the News. She made some points in the
February 28th issue that really resonated with me and if
you didn’t read it or already forgot, let me refresh your
memory:

“Lean into your purpose. When your focus shifts
to serving, inspiring and uplifting others, your brilliance
becomes a gift to share-not something to diminish.

Remember this truth: Your success doesn’t diminish
anyone else’s potential. There’s abundant room for all
of us to shine. When you show up fully as yourself, you
silently give others permission to do the same.”

(You can meet Lori at the Wistaria Festival next Saturday.”

And, speaking of the Wistaria Festival, it is indeed next
Saturday and I don’t think we need to worry about rain
or being chilly. The vine should be incredibly beautiful
and full with the weather we’ve been having and it’s not too late to get your tickets to see this world-famous vine.
If you’ve never seen it, you really need to go and if you have seen it, you should go again.
My picture this week is another wistaria that’s up on Grandview, close to Santa Anita. It’s not The Wistaria Vine, but it’s
nice to see.

WALKING SIERRA MADRE:
The Social Side by Deanne Davis
I don’t know about you, but I really dislike going to the dentist. I went today, anyway, for the first of the two annual cleaning
events. If I had any Valium on hand, I would have taken one. As I do not, I prayed a lot. This, to me, is torture of the
finest kind. It seems to take an absolute eternity but it was actually less than an hour. The good news, all is well and I don’t
have to undergo this misery till September.

I, apparently, am not alone in this as thoughts along this line abound:

“Going to the dentist is just paying someone to drill for oil in your mouth.”

“Why is it that the dentist always asks you a question when their fingers are in your mouth?”

“36% of people experience dental anxiety…12% suffer from extreme phobia…

which makes skipping very tempting.”

“Nothing says ‘relax’ like a high-pitched drill and someone lecturing you about flossing.’

On a much higher level of thought, the National Day of Prayer is still a couple of months away, May, 7th, but somebody
sent me Washington’s Prayer for America, delivered June 8, 1783, and I wanted to share it with you before I misplaced it
or spilled coffee on it and it was gone forever!

“The theme for the 2026 National Day of Prayer is “Glorify God Among the Nations – Seeking Him in all Generations,”
drawn from 1 Chronicles 16:24, encouraging people to share God’s glory across generations and nations, with special emphasis
on historical milestones like America’s 250th anniversary.”

With Easter just a couple of weeks away, this seemed like a good time to pass this along to you:

“I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have the United States in His holy protection, that He would incline the
hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government, to entertain a brotherly affection
and love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have
served in the Field, and finally, that He would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do Justice, to love mercy, and
to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the Characteristics of the Divine
author of our blessed Religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to
be a happy Nation. Amen.”

It's not a bad idea to pray for our Nation now and then. Just add that in when we lift our family and friends to God to bless
and protect them.

One last thought about teeth: My precious husband, John, now in heaven and with perfect heavenly teeth, held my hand
and looked deep into my eyes when I was about 40, and said, most tenderly… “I really need you to start flossing.” And I
did…and do.
