Students will meet at selected sites in the 41st District for the first five sessions, and conclude with a two-day session in Northern California. Last year’s final session involved a tour of the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, followed by a panel discussion with members of Facebook’s government affairs team. Day two brought the students to the California State Capitol where they toured the building, met Assemblymember Holden and sat in on a Senate Education Committee hearing. “The Young Legislators Program allowed me to experience state government, make useful connections, and discover new, interesting options for my future,” said Darcy Stone, 2016 Young Legislator and now a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley. “It was a wonderful program and was glad to participate.” The 2017 Young Legislators Program is open to high school seniors living in the 41st Assembly District. Applicants must commit to monthly Saturday meetings starting in January 2017 and submit applications by November 15, 2016.
