When they arrived, they found the ignition to the
victim's vehicle had been punched and there was

vehicle. The stereo had been removed and stolen.
It appears the suspects were attempting to steal
the vehicle, but were not successful. The vehicle
was locked. The investigation is continuing.

Traffic Collision / Property Damage March 17 at
10:31 a.m., a traffic collision was reported in the

air in the lines, causing the brakes to fail.

p.m., officers responded to a trespassing report at a
motel in the 900 block of E. Huntington. A subject

to retrieve the wallet and were detained by officers.
Further investigation revealed the door had been
left unlocked by management and they had only
been in the room for a few minutes. The 16-year-
old female was found to be a reported runaway

trespassing.

Pictured, from left, Duarte Chamber Board Member, Sheryl Lefmann, Naelh Othman, and Duarte
Kiwanis President, Cheryl Reynolds.

Naelh Othman and Sheryl Lefmann have
been committed to serving homeless kids
within the Duarte Unified School District -
Naelh as a District employee and Sheryl as
a Duarte Chamber Board Member. Under
the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance
act, school districts are responsible to ensure
children in homeless situations (including,
couch surfing, multiple families living
together, living out of cars, etc.) are served.
Many times, these students don’t have basic
necessities such as jackets, pencils, paper
and many other items. Naelh, with the help
of Duarte Kiwanis, was able to set up a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with
ACTS Thrift Store in Pasadena to help serve
these kids. DUSD collects donations of many
kinds, ACTS picks up the donations, and
gives DUSD a voucher that can be used by
these students. CHIK - Community Homeless
Initiative for Kids - received a check at a
recent Duarte Kiwanis meeting. The public
will be able to help by donating directly to the
program through the Chamber website very
soon.
