1630 AM EMERGENCY RADIO & 

Free on-air publicity for local events

 Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts for 
Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. PSAs 
will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 24/7 and 
can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.

 Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have their 
event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre Community 
Information Radio. The station covers the city of Sierra Madre, plus 
surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. 

Your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity
• Be open to the public
• Be of general interest to local citizens


Just 
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event and 
e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com. 


FIVE LOCAL STUDENT WIN EDUCATION 
AWARDS FROM SIERRA MADRE CIVIC CLUB

After much deliberation five local Sierra Madre graduating seniors have 
each won an Education Award given by the Sierra Madre Civic Club at their 
May 9th meeting at the Hart House in Memorial Park. The recipients include 
Elijah Griffin from La Salle High School, Erica Whiting from Pasadena 
High School, Aidan Crochetiere from Polytechnic, Katie Stapenhorst from 
Polytechnic, and Axel Tanner from Pasadena High School. All five of these 
award recipients were presented to the ladies of the Sierra Madre Civic Club 
on Thursday night as their families watched the ceremonies. Each child had 
personal information presented about them including their plans for the 
future and received their stipends. 

2017 PHILANTHROPIES FUNDED BY THE 
SIERRA MADRE CIVIC CLUB

At the Sierra Madre Civic Club’s May 9th meeting the philanthropies 
that will be funded for the 2017 year were announced. Funds were raised 
over the last year from a variety of fund raisers including the Concert 
in the Park, Confetti Eggs sales for the Fourth of July, The Community 
Garage Sale, the Shoppe that sells hand-made items the weekend after 
Thanksgiving in Kersting Court, recycled cans, bottles and ink cartridges, 
and the “Welcome Spring “ Fundraising Luncheon held on April 22 at St 
Rita’s church. By the end of the evening well over $20,000 had been given 
back to the community including the funds for the Education Awards 
presented that same evening to deserving high school seniors. The actual 
presentations of the funding will take place at the City Council meeting on 
May 23rd at 6:30 pm, as each philanthropy will be receiving their check. 

A NEW SLATE OF OFFICERS FOR THE SIERRA 
MADRE CIVIC CLUB 2017-18.

Following the announcement of the Educational Award recipients and the 
philanthropy grants the 2017-18 Civic Club Board was elected. The new 
officers are Jane Zamanzadeh, president, Jeanne Martin first vice-president. 
Geri Wright, second vice-president, Virginia Mullaney and Pat Krok co- 
third vice-presidents, Sharon Murphy, recording secretary, Sue Quinn 
(Correspondence), Judie Cimino (Website), and Alice Clark (Newsletter) 
tri chairs for communications secretary, Darlene Traxler, treasurer, and 
Judie Cimino, Parliamentarian. These officers will be installed at the 
Installation dinner to be held at Raffi’s Restaurant on May 18. 

 The Sierra Madre Civic Club is a civic and philanthropic organization. 
We meet the second Thursday of every month at 7:30 in the Hart Park 
House.

SIERRA MADRE 4TH OF JULY PARADE ENTRIES OPEN NOW! 

 
Parade Registration is also OPEN now through June 1. If 
you’d like to enter this hometown event, as an organization or 
business or individual group featuring community members, 
organizations, classic cars, a marching band, kids on their 
decorated bikes and so much more. Join us for the 2017 parade 
on July 4, from 10:00am – 12:00 pm. The parade route will begin 
at the corner of Sierra Madre Blvd. and Sunnyside Avenue, and 
will travel the length of Sierra Madre Blvd. to Sierra Vista Park. 

 Parade participation is open to all; young, young-at-heart, 
and everything in between. There is NO FEE to participate in 
the parade thanks to Official Sponsor of the 2017 Parade a The 
Kensington. The Kensington-Sierra Madre is an assisted living 
and memory care residence in the heart of Sierra Madre. 
The committee and community join us in thanking them for 
their partnership this year as we work together to bring the 
community and outstanding All-American Celebration. 

 Parade registration is now open and all applications must 
be submitted by Thursday, June 1st. Due to staging concerns, 
no late entries will be accepted. Please make sure to fill out all 
fields and hit the submit button!
