I.C.Y.M.I. - HAPPENINGS AROUND TOWN HALLOWEEN 2019

HALLOWEEN WINDOW PAINTING CONTEST 
FINALS FOR 2019

Halloween Window Painting, a Sierra Madre tradition, is sponsored by Sierra Madre Civic Club in 
co-operation with the City of Sierra Madre. Sierra Madre Civic Club would like to announce the 
outcome of this year’s annual event. Students started Thursday, October 24 with the window taping; 
Friday, October 25, they started painting and finished their painting by 10:00 on Saturday, October 26. 
Judging started at 10:00 and awards were given at 12:00 at Kersting Court.

9-10-year-old age group:

1st ----Sydney Wang, Madison Gil and Leynah Barcarse painting window #45 at Berkshire

2nd ----Isabela Ghiloni, Yinhei Ghiloni and Carlee Marker painting window #43 at Arnold’s 
Frontier Hardware

3rd ----Ivan Parry, Henry Zimmerman, Sophie Ting and Samantha Descalzi painting window #46 at

11-12-year-old age group:

13-14-year-old age group:

15-17-year-old age group:

1st ----Colleen McPhillips and Margaret Brennan de Jesus painting window #20 at Chase Bank

2nd ----Jessica Valenzuela and Maria Yniquiz painting window #10 at Casa del Rey Restaurant

3rd ----Jadyn Iinuma and Xochitl Munoz painting window #29 at The Buccaneer Lounge, Inc.

The winners who were unable to attend the awards ceremony, can get their certificates at City Hall 
during their regular business hours of Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Thank you to the students who volunteered on Thursday, October 24 to help with the taping of 
newspapers on the assigned windows.

Thank you to the Merchants who supported this event. There was a total of 105 windows offered, 
the students painted 55. There were 155 students registered which made up 52 teams.

We want to thank our volunteer judges for this year’s event; Mayor John Harabedian, Civic Club 
Members Jean Coleman, Nancy Dorn, Karma Bell and Helen Stapenhorst. Community volunteers 
were Jill Franks, Sue Levoe, Alessandra Schulman, Bya Berger, Lacey Mode Walker and Sophia D’Auria. 
Also, Teddi Rhys, who is with The Creative Arts Group. 

Thank you to all additional Civic Club volunteers who assisted the students with the taping of 
newspapers on the windows, registration and paint distribution and the water and snacks to keep 
us going. The award certificates where designed by Nancy Dorn. What wonderful photos from our
