Message from the Superintendent

Dear PUSD Community,

With the surge in COVID-19 cases and stricter Stay-at-Home
orders that took effect this week-end, we want to remind you of
the measures that PUSD is taking to ensure the safety and well-
being of our students and employees. The safety of our students
and employees continues to be our main priority.

The stricter Stay at Home Order now in place does not modify
existing state guidance regarding K-12 schools; K-12 schools
and programs that are already open can remain open.

After careful consideration, LEARNs supervised care and the International Academy at Blair,
which serve small groups of students, will remain open. These programs provide an essential
service to our students and families, and serve some of our most vulnerable students who are
struggling with online learning. Safety protocols inspected and approved by the Pasadena
Public Health Department are being implemented.

As announced before Thanksgiving, athletic conditioning and special education services,
which were set to begin in November, have been suspended until further notice. We will
continue to prepare waiver applications for TK-2nd grade and small group learning services
so that they can be ready to go when COVID-19 conditions allow.

Meals at PUSD’s Grab & Go Food Centers continue to be served. For schedules, please visit
our website at https://www.pusd.us/domain/2663

I would like to express our appreciation for all the PUSD employees who working on the
front lines providing essential support for our students. I appreciate their commitment and
courage in supporting our students and families during this very difficult time.

We will keep you informed as we receive updates from the Governor and public health authori-
ties regarding stay at home orders.

Sincerely,

Brian McDonald, Ed.D.

PASADENA UNIFIED GRADES INCENTIVE
PROGRAM

FOR THE 2ND SEMESTER

PUSD recently reviewed some of the challenges that students and families have
faced during the first semester of the school year. Because of these challenges, the
School Board has approved a unique Grades Incentive Program for PUSD's secondary
students during the spring semester.

Any student who received a D or F during the 1st semester will now have the
opportunity to improve their grade based upon their work during the 2nd semester.
By demonstrating their mastery of knowledge this semester students will subsequently
demonstrate their mastery of knowledge from the first semester as well.

Thus, if a student successfully receives a higher grade during the 2nd semester, their
1st semester grade will be averaged out accordingly and automatically updated on
our data system.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our School Counselor at
klauschie.maureen@pusd.us.
