CITRUS COLLEGE EARNS 'MILITARY FRIENDLY' HONORS FOR
SUPPORT OF STUDENT VETERANS, FAMILIES
Glendora, Calif. (May 4, 2021) – In recognition of its commitment to student veterans
and their fami-lies, Citrus College has been named both a Military Friendly School and a
Military Friendly Spouse School.
Home to more than 400 student veterans, Citrus College received the 2021-2022 awards
from VIQTORY, a service-disabled and veteran-owned small business that owns and operates
the Military Friendly brand. Schools receiving these honors were evaluated from
public data sources and survey responses.
Citrus College has been named a Military Friendly School for 11 consecutive years. The
Military Friendly Spouse School honor, the college's second in a row, came as a result of
efforts to create sustainable educational opportunities for military spouses.
One shining example of Citrus College's commitment to veterans and their families is
the Veterans Success Center, which connects veterans to a wide array of services, ranging
from academic counseling and orientations to mental health support and vocational
rehabilitation. Additional services include help navigating the various military tuition assistance
programs.
For military spouses, the Veterans Success Center takes the time to work with them on
their educa-tion benefits and other resources available to them. The Veterans Success
Center also provides mili-tary and veteran spouses all the services provided to student
veterans, including access to the Vet-Success on Campus counselor and other resources.
"I want to thank our dedicated and caring Veterans Success Center staff for making sure
our student military service members, student veterans and their family members receive
the support they need to excel in the classroom and in their future careers," said Dr.
Geraldine M. Perri, superinten-dent/president of Citrus College. "Citrus College is very
honored to receive these recognitions."
Throughout the pandemic, the Veterans Success Center has maintained its commitment
to veterans virtually through Zoom drop-in lounge times; communications through Canvas,
email and the Citrus Mobile app; and by phone.
The complete list of 2021-2022 Military Friendly Schools will be published in the May
issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. Citrus College will be included in the July/August issue of
Military Spouse magazine.
"On behalf of the board, I want to thank Citrus College faculty and staff for their dedication
to student veterans and their families," said Dr. Patricia A. Rasmussen, president of
the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. "These recognitions are an affirmation
of the important work being done, as well a sign to veterans considering higher
education that Citrus College is a fantastic destination."
For more information about the Veterans Success Center, visit www.citruscollege.edu/
stdntsrv/veterans.
The Citrus College Veterans Success Center organized a career panel in November 2019
where a handful of veterans, seated at the table, spoke to student veterans about their transition
from military to civilian life. Note: this photo was tak-en before the campus closed due
to COVID-19." Photo courtesy Citrus College.
