GOVERNMENTS IS AND WHAT THEY DO? 

You are not alone. Join April Verlato at the Arcadia Community Coordinating Council on Monday, 
February 6, 2023 as she speaks about the organization and the impact it has on the community 
of Arcadia. 

Mayor Pro Tem April Verlato was elected to her first term on City Council in April 2016 and re-
elected to a second term in April 2020. She served as Mayor of Arcadia, April 2019-April 2020. 
She also serves as the delegate to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments for the City of 
Arcadia and sits on its Executive Committee as 3rd Vice President as well as serving on the Homelessness 
Committee.

April was born and raised in Arcadia. She received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from 
UCLA and a law degree from Southwestern School of Law. She took over her father's law practice 
located in the heart of Downtown Arcadia on Huntington Drive between Santa Anita and First 
Avenue in 2000. She continues to practice law in the areas of Personal Injury and Estate Planning, 
Probate and Trust Litigation.

Mayor Pro Tem Verlato is a founding member and former President of the Downtown Arcadia 
Improvement Association (2012-present), a Community Benefits District focused on promoting 
and revitalizing Downtown Arcadia. She Chairs the Holiday Fair, the Halloween Haunt and serves on the Patriotic Festival Committee. 
These annual events have become a hallmark of the Downtown Arcadia experience and provide community participation and activities.

ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER

For the period of Sunday, January 22nd through Saturday, 
January 28th, the Police Department responded to 993 calls for 
service, of which 123 required formal investigations. The following 
is a summary report of some of the incidents handled by the 
Department during this period.

Sunday, January 22:

1. At 8:19 a.m., an officer responded to the intersection
of Baldwin Avenue and Fairview Avenue regarding a battery
investigation. The suspect, who was riding his bike passed the
victim on the sidewalk, spontaneously confronted her and
lunged his bike at her multiple times. The suspect is described
as a Hispanic male, approximately 30-years-old, with a black
jacket, white gloves, and a blue backpack.

2. At 10:21 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the
200 block of West Wistaria Avenue regarding a burglary investigation. 
The resident witnessed two suspects enter her home
and then flee when she confronted them. Both suspects are
described as 5’6” tall, with medium builds, wearing black face
masks, hooded sweatshirts, and dark blue clothing.

Monday, January 23:

3. At 4:51 a.m., officers responded to Robusto Cigar, located 
at 26 North First Avenue, regarding a commercial burglary 
investigation. Surveillance footage captured one male
suspect shatter the front glass door with a punching tool, and
once inside, he stole cigar cutters and lighters. The suspect is
described as wearing a light colored hat and face covering, a
dark colored hooded sweatshirt, light colored pants.

Tuesday, January 24:

4. At 9:23 a.m., an officer responded to Unocal 76 Gas
Station, located at 4 West Foothill Boulevard, regarding a
grand theft investigation. The suspect stole an employee’s cell
phone from the office and fled in a black Lincoln SUV. The
suspect is described as a 35 to 50-year-old Hispanic male, approximately 
5’8” tall and 160 pounds.

Wednesday, January 25:

5. At 7:53 a.m., an officer responded to Huntington Memorial 
Hospital regarding a battery that happened at Knockout’s, 
located at 1580 Clark Street. An investigation revealed
the victim thought he was entering the Uber ride he ordered,
but he accidentally opened the door to a different vehicle. The
occupants of that vehicle exited and physically assaulted the
victim. The suspects are described as Black males.

6. At 1:08 p.m., officers responded to Nordstrom, located
at 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a grand theft investigation. 
A lone suspect was seen stealing nearly $3,300.00
worth of merchandise and was arrested by loss prevention. A
records check of the 25-year-old male transient revealed he
had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Thursday, January 26:

7. At 7:32 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in
the 1400 block of Orlando Drive regarding a burglary investigation. 
Surveillance footage captured two suspects enter the
rear yard of the residence. The suspects attempted to enter the
home but fled without making entry.

8. At 8:18 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the
1200 block of Magnolia Court regarding a burglary investigation. 
Unknown suspects smashed a rear glass door and ransacked 
the master bedroom. The loss is unknown.

9. At 10:30 p.m., an officer responded to Station Bar, located 
at 1218 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a vehicle that
had collided into three parked cars. Upon contacting the driver, 
the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from
his breath. Through a series of tests, it was determined that
was driving under the influence of alcohol. The 38-year-old
male from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the
Arcadia City Jail for booking.

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of 
January 22, 2023 – January 28, 2023. 



January 22, 2023

• Burglary (Vehicle):

1171 Encanto Parkway (Encanto Park). On January 22, 2023
between 12:30 AM and 2:30 PM, suspect(s) unknown shattered 
the passenger side front window of the victim’s vehicle, a 2017
Acura ILX, while it was parked at the location. The suspect(s)
stole her wallet and purse from the front seat. The loss was
approximately $50 and approximately $500 in damages. No
surveillance video is available.



• Petty Theft:

1193 Huntington Drive (Smart & Final). On January 22, 2023
at 10:03 AM, suspect(s) unknown two female black adults, one
wearing a blue jacket and red pants and the second wearing
light-colored clothing, walked directly to the beauty aisle. The
suspects placed numerous cosmetic and beauty products into
bags they had hidden underneath their clothing and exited the
location without paying. Both suspects entered a grey Nissan
Maxima and fled the area. The loss was approximately $350.

January 24, 2023

• Burglary (Vehicle):

1481 Buena Vista (Old Spaghetti Factory). On January 24,
2023 between 6:35 PM and 7:19 PM, suspect(s) unknown shattered 
the rear driver side window of the victim’s vehicle, a
2016 Porsche Panamera, while it was parked at the location.
The suspect(s) stole his backpack containing an Apple Macbook 
and a Dell Notebook. The loss was approximately $50
and approximately $3,500 in damages. No surveillance video
is available.



• Grand Theft:

3500 block of Conata Street. On January 24, 2023 between
12:00 AM and 5:00 AM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s
catalytic converter to his vehicle, a gray 2020 Nissan NV200.
The loss was approximately $4,500.



• Burglary (Commercial):

1500 Duarte Road (City of Hope). Between January 27, 2023
3:00 PM and January 28, 2023 4:56 AM, suspect(s) unknown
entered the secured construction area of the location and
forced open a storage unit. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole the
construction tools. The loss was approximately $21,000. No
video surveillance of the area.



• Burglary (Commercial):

2221 Huntington Drive (India Food & Spices). On January
28, 2023 at 5:13 AM suspect(s) unknown shattered the front
glass door and entered the location. Once inside the suspect(s)
ransacked the business and stole unknown items. Possible surveillance 
video.



• Grand Theft:

2300 Block of Park Rose Avenue. Between January 27, 2023
9:30 PM and January 28, 2023 2:30 PM, suspect(s) unknown
stole the victim’s catalytic converter to his vehicle, a gray 2011
Toyota Prius. The loss was approximately $2,500.
