SIERRA MADRE MIDDLE SCHOOL LITERARY CLUB 

Calling all readers and writers! The Literary Club is for students who would like to fur-ther explore 

SCHOOL DIRECTORY 
the world of literature and writing. We'll talk about books, read books, write stories and poems,
discuss craft and how the publishing industry works, and possibly Zoom visit with children's and 
young adult book authors. 

The club will meet after school on Wednesdays for six weeks and will be run by Larissa Theule, parent 
of SMMS students Eero and Anya Schmunk. 

There's space for 20 students, all grades welcome. To apply, write a poem about whatever you like and 
email it to ltheule@gmail.com. 

If any parents are interested in volunteering to be present and available to help, please let me know. 

Dates: March 15 through April 26.
Time: Wednesdays, 3:15pm - 4:15pm (Room TBD) 

ALVERNO HEIGHTS ACADEMY LOWER SCHOOL 

-TK-8 LOWER SCHOOL TO REMAIN OPEN 
Alverno’s Lower School (TK-8), which opened in 2020, remains very strong and will continue 
to operate on the school’s 13-acre campus. The Lower School will remain an independent, 
Catholic school governed by the Board of Trustees who are committed to keeping 
the spirit of the school’s Franciscan and Immaculate Heart founders alive. The same letter 
stated, “We are grateful for 63 years of empowering young women and embrace Alverno’s 
new future as a co-ed TK-8 with our lower school students and families. We will continue to 
prepare knowledgeable young women and men of conscience and conviction to function in 
the world with the courage to take risks in the pur-suit of values and with the ability to work 
collaboratively in a global society.”
