UNITED AGAINST HATE AMONG ITEMS ON

MONROVIA CITY COUNCIL AGENDA

On Tuesday,
November 7th,
the City Council
received $2 million
from Assembly
member
Chris Holden's
office for the
Canyon Park
Restoration
Project. Assembly
member
Holden recognized
the work
that the City has
been doing and
the effort dedicated
to making
resources
available to our
community. We
couldn't thank
Assembly Member
Holden
and his office
enough for the
support we've
received to help
restore our beloved
Canyon
Park!

During the meeting, the City Council also proclaimed November 2023 as Pulmonary Hypertension
(PH) Awareness Month. PH is a rare disorder that affects more than 18,000 adults each
year. With education and effective treatment, the disorder can be managed. The Council hopes
that education and research funding will help find a cure.

Lastly, the Council recognized the week of November 19th as National "United Against Hate
Week." Every person in Monrovia, as well as the rest of the world, deserves to be treated fairly
and with dignity regardless of their origin, race, faith, and sexual orientation.

Kids’ Night Out is a night for kids to have fun with arts and crafts, games, watch a
movie, and enjoy a light dinner. The program is for ages 5-12 and supervised by Recreation
staff.

The next Kids’ Night Out will take place on Friday, November 17, from 6-10pm with
a Turkey Harvest theme for only $30 per child.

Turkey Harvest is a Thanksgiving style celebration where kids can enjoy a light meal
together and share what they are thankful for. The fun takes place at the Arcadia
Community Center, 365 Campus Drive, Arcadia. Register online at www.ArcadiaCA.
gov or in person at the Arcadia Recreation office. For more information, please

call 626.574.5113.

HONORING UNSUNG HEROES

Outgoing Duarte Kiwanis Club President, Reyna Diaz, wanted to be sure to recognize
those "unsung" heroes in her life this year. She presented Community Service Awards
to Rosa Holguin and Yolanda Cecilia Amaya. Now the interested part is that Yolanda
is Reyna's sister - always available at a moment's notice and Rosa isn't even a member
of the Duarte Kiwanis Club - she's a member of the Duarte Rotary Club! Thank you
Ladies for all your service!

If you are interested in joining the Duarte Kiwanis or presenting at a future meeting,
please contact Tina Carey at tinac51@aol.com.
