modern age. These teen and tween musicians, drawing inspiration from grunge, pop, punk,
classic rock, and emo, are proving that age is no barrier to creating compelling, energetic music.

On April 27, these budding rock stars will take center stage at Kidchella, a family-friendly music
event at Angry Horse Brewing, located at 603 W Whittier Blvd in Montebello, California.
From noon to 6 PM, the venue will be alive with the sounds of youthful creativity and passion,
showcasing the immense talent of these up-and-coming bands.

Kidchella promises to be an unforgettable afternoon for music lovers of all ages. The event
offers a rare opportunity to witness the vibrant and diverse rock scene emerging in the San Gabriel
Valley, driven by young artists with a deep appreciation for both the roots and evolution
of rock music. Attendees can expect a mix of genres that range from the raw emotion of emo
to the high-energy rebellion of punk, the nostalgia of classic rock, the gritty tones of grunge,
and the catchy melodies of pop rock.

This event is more than just a concert; it’s a celebration of the next generation of musicians
making their mark in the local music scene. It’s a chance for families to come together, support
young talent, and enjoy a day of live performances in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Whether you’re a long-time rock fan or just looking for a fun outing, Kidchella is the place
to be. Mark your calendars for April 27 and head to Angry Horse Brewing to experience the
future of rock music in the San Gabriel Valley—it’s loud, it’s fresh, and it’s here to stay.

The Rising Stars of San Gabriel Valley: Tween Bands Bring Rock Back to Life

In the heart of the San Gabriel Valley, a music revolution is taking shape, fueled by the passion
and talent of tween and teenage musicians. Ranging in age from 10 to 17, these young artists
are breathing new life into rock music, reviving classics while putting their own spin on the
genre. They play punk, metal, grunge, classic rock, emo, and more, drawing inspiration from
decades of musical heritage.

Most of these prodigies honed their skills in local music schools, performing arts programs,
and after-school lessons. Their polished performances are a testament to countless hours of
practice, mentorship, and a deep love for the craft. While their ages may be young, their musical
abilities and stage presence rival those of seasoned performers. The unique personalities of
each band further contribute to the magic of their live shows, lending a chemistry that makes
every performance unforgettable.

Remarkably, these young musicians juggle demanding schedules, balancing martial arts, academics,
sports, church activities, and participation in school orchestras—all while dedicating
themselves to their rock bands. Their ability to excel in multiple areas is a testament to their
dedication, time management, and passion for music.

A Revival of Rock’s Greatest Eras

The setlists performed by these bands showcase an incredible range of influences. They cover
classic rock legends like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, and Bob Dylan, while also
diving into punk icons such as The Clash, Iggy Pop, and Blondie. Grunge anthems from Pearl
Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Smashing Pumpkins are staples, as are modern hits from
Olivia Rodrigo, Yellowcard, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

This blend of old and new creates a dynamic repertoire that appeals to audiences across generations.
Whether it's a heartfelt rendition of a Bob Dylan ballad or the raw energy of a Nirvana
classic, these young performers connect with their listeners in profound ways.

Spotlight on the Bands

Among the rising stars of this scene are several standout acts, each bringing their unique flavor
to the stage:

Sister Sister

This band features two sets of sisters, Jaelynn and Jenesis Sunga and Rubee and Opee Lovell,
whose chemistry and harmony are unparalleled. Their stage presence is electrifying, exuding
professionalism and confidence far beyond their years. It’s easy to sense the joy they feel when
performing, as their infectious energy captivates audiences and leaves them wanting more.
Their polished, entertaining performances and diverse setlist keep fans coming back time and
again.

The Sweet
Unknown

Led by multi-
instrumentalist
Joaquin and vocalist
Kennedy, The Sweet Unknown delivers an electrifying mix of grunge, punk and emo that leaves audiences
spellbound. Their ability to balance raw emotion with technical precision is a hallmark of their
performances.

Sonny Kennedy

A solo act with a deep appreciation for lyricism, Sonny Kennedy channels the spirit of legends like John Lennon,
Paul McCartney, and Bob Dylan. His performances feature him on both piano and guitar, showcasing
his versatility and talent. His original compositions and poignant covers highlight his skill for storytelling
through music.

The Rosé Hooligans

Hailing from the Rosemead area, this band’s hard-driving rock and roll is as raw as it is thrilling. Their no-
holds-barred approach to music makes every performance an unforgettable experience. Led by program
director Andres Serra of Rock Band Camp Rosemead, the group comprises Joseph Nguyen on bass, Santino
Marquez shredding with his axe, Gordon Kwong on rhythm, Hudson Lun on drums, and Thai Minh Nguyen
on vocals. Not only are they raucous but they are just the right amount of rowdy.

Fallen Angel

Fronted by the charismatic Lydia Kim and backed by Seamus O'Kelly on guitar, Gavin Wood on bass, Colt
Kellar on drums, and Jay Vuong on keys, Fallen Angel combines heartfelt lyrics with powerful instrumentation.
Lydia writes all the band’s lyrics, lending an authentic voice to their music. Their rendition of "All the
Small Things" is a sweet, crowd-pleasing moment that resonates deeply with fans.

The Future of Rock in the Valley

Throughout the history of rock, certain regions have emerged as the epicenters of unique sounds and subgenres.
The Seattle area birthed grunge, the Lower East Side of NYC became synonymous with punk, the
New Jersey shore gave us Springsteen and Bon Jovi, and Southern California’s surf rock was immortalized
by Dick Dale, Jan and Dean, and the Beach Boys. Could the San Gabriel Valley be on the verge of creating
its own distinct musical identity?

With these bands continuing to grow, learn, and inspire one another, it’s plausible that they are in the early
stages of crafting a sound specific to their time and region. Audiences across the San Gabriel Valley might
one day fondly recall the moment they saw Fallen Angel, Sister Sister, The Rosé Hooligans, Sonny Kennedy,
and The Sweet Unknown perform together and say, "I was there, just a few feet away from them, when they
were just kids."

This is your chance to witness history in the making. You might not realize it at the time, but by attending
Kidchella, you could be part of the origin story of a movement that defines an era and a region. Don’t miss
the opportunity to say you were there, watching the future of rock unfold in the heart of the San Gabriel
Valley.
