Officer Shot 


During OIS

 A shooting suspect was killedand a Pasadena Police Officer 
injured earlier this monthduring an Officer-Involved 
Shooting near the Sierra 
Madre Villa Station.

 According to police, onMarch 2 at approximately 7:30p.m., Pasadena Police Officersresponded to a 911 call nearthe Metro train station. 

“Upon arrival, officers located 
an adult victim sufferingfrom a gunshot wound andimmediately rendered medicalaid” Police Chief Gene Harris 
said. "While officers were 
assessing the scene, additionalresponding personnel 
observed an individual 
believed to be the suspect. Afoot pursuit ensued.”

 During the pursuit, anexchange of gunfire occurredbetween the suspect and 
officers. A Pasadena Police 
Officer sustained an injuryduring the incident. The 
suspect was pronounceddeceased at the scene.

 The injured officer and theinitial gunshot victim weretransported to a local hospitalfor medical treatment. The 
officer has been identified as 
Officer Bryan Vasquez.

City lookingfor feedback 
on draft 
Transit Plan

 The Department of 
Transportation announced 
Monday that they are askingthe public to provide feedbackon the draft Short RangeTransit Plan (SRTP). The 
SRTP provides guidance forfive years of programming fortransit service developmentand investments that supportthe policy goals of PasadenaTransit and Pasadena Dial-A-
Ride, the official city-operatedpublic transit services.

The SRTP contains 
recommendations for 
updating Pasadena Transit 
routes, hours of service andfrequency of trips, as well asrecommendations that apply 
to Pasadena Dial-A-Ride. 
Users of the service, as well asnon-users, are encouraged toprovide feedback on the reportand the recommendations. 
The report can be accessed,
and feedback can be provided,

can also be provided byphone by calling the TransitDivision’s main line (626)

Feedback will be collected

 This report is the result 
of extensive analysis and 
public outreach. Throughoutthe update process, publicfeedback has been solicited 
through various channels. Thedepartment collected over 
1,300 onboard surveys fromPasadena Transit riders and 
150 surveys from PasadenaDial-A-Ride members. The 
department also hosted nineworkshops, including thosefor youth, seniors, and Spanishspeakers.

City Announces HERstory 2026:
The Path Forward for Pay Equity 

The City of Pasadena’s Parks,
Recreation and CommunityServices (PRCS) Department andthe Commission on the Status of 
Women announced HERstory2026: The Path Forward for PayEquity, an interactive Women’sHistory Month program focusedon workplace equity, equal pay,
and the lived experiences ofwomen. The event is set for todayfrom 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
at Robinson Park Recreation 
Center, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Parkingis available on the street and in

 HERstory 2026 invites attendees 
to explore meaningful stepstoward closing the gender paygap and advancing gender equitythrough dialogue, reflection, 
and community engagement. 
The program highlights the 
ongoing impact of pay inequityand the importance of continuedadvocacy for fair wages and 
workplace transparency.

 Welcome remarks will be 
provided by Vice Mayor 
Jess Rivas, City Council 
District 5, who will discuss 
the importance of pay equityin today’s economic climate. 
Through guided discussion andaudience reflection, the programwill explore how inequityoften remains hidden, whereinstitutions fall short, and what 
progress looks like at the local 
and national levels.

 This year’s program featurescurated excerpts from Lilly(2025), a feature film directed 
by Rachel Feldman and starringPatricia Clarkson as LillyLedbetter. Lilly Ledbetter’s 

famous lawsuit against GoodyearTire and Rubber Co. broughtto light the inequality in payfor women, and this has been amajor factor in creating changeon a national level. The video 
will be accompanied by a paneldiscussion on the effect of payinequality and how we can 
achieve workplace equity.

 Panelists include TiffanyJacobs Quinn, Director of 
Human Resources for the Cityof Pasadena; Rachel Feldman,
director of Lilly; and JeanetteLaba, an employment law 
attorney who specializes in 
gender discrimination and payequity issues. Together, they willdiscuss the legal, cultural, andpersonal aspects of pay equityand how these issues continue 
to shape women’s experiences in 
the workplace.

 Following the discussion,
attendees are invited to connect 
with local organizations and 
community partners, includingthe League of Women Voters,
YWCA Glendale and Pasadena,
Pasadena City College, PasadenaJob Center (NDLON), Shepherd’sDoor, Pasadena Organizing forProgress, and additional localorganizations committed to 
advancing equity for women andfamilies.

Gloves BoxingTournament

the Annual Southern 
California Regional BoxingTournament at VictoryPark Recreation Center, 
2575 Paloma St.

 The competition beganThursday. Bouts resume at12 p.m, today with the finalbouts starting at 11 a.m. onSunday.

The California Golden 
Gloves Tournament is one 
of the most prestigiouscompetitions in amateurboxing and has been inexistence since 1923. The 
tournament provides 
a platform for amateur 
boxers to showcase their 
skills and compete at ahigh level. This year’s eventwill feature top male andfemale athletes, ages 18 
and older, from across 
Southern California. The

season, taking place on Saturday,

2:00 p.m. at Garfield Park. 
This popular community eventoffers activities for all ages,
including egg hunts, interactivecommunity booths, games andprizes, carnival-style rides, anda special photo opportunitywith the Bunny.

 The Spring Eggstravaganzawill feature multiple egg huntsscheduled throughout the 
event, which are organizedby age groups. The event willalso include an Adaptive EggHunt designed for individualswith accessibility needs to 
ensure inclusive participation.

Rent Stabilization DepartmentReleases New Annual Report 

The City of Pasadena’s RentStabilization Department (RSD)
announced the released its first 
Annual Report, documentingthe department’s work from itsinception in 2023 through the 
end of Fiscal Year 2025.

 The report provides a 
comprehensive overview of 
RSD’s efforts to implement thePasadena Fair and EquitableHousing Charter Amendment(Article XVIII), the voter-
approved measure that 
established rent stabilization and 
expanded tenant protections inPasadena.

 Created to support the workof the Pasadena Rental HousingBoard (PRHB) and administerArticle XVIII of the Pasadena 
City Charter, the RSD regulates 
rent increases on covered 
rental units, provides evictionprotections, administers the 
rental registry, and ensures 
compliance with all laws, 
ordinances, and regulationsgoverning rent stabilization inPasadena.

 "This report reflects thefoundational work that has taken 
place to establish programs,
serve residents, and implementPasadena’s voter-approved rent 
stabilization measure” 
said Helen Morales, Directorof the Rent Stabilization 
Department.

 During the FY 24-25 reportingperiod, the department recorded5,478 property registrationscovering 21,914 rental units,
achieving an 87% compliance 

rate during the first nine monthsof the 2025 rental registrationcycle. RSD also conducted 43events and trainings attended bymore than 5,500 people, whilestaff handled more than 13,700phone calls and over 3,700housing counselor inquiries.
