Pasadena Event 'Historic
Preservation: Then & Now'
Join Pasadena HeritageMonday from 5:30 p.m. to 7
p.m. as they kick off NationalHistoric Preservation Month
and reflect on the role
preservation continues to playin shaping Pasadena.
When Pasadena Heritage wasfounded in 1977, the city stood
at a turning point. Aggressive
redevelopment plans aimed
to revive a struggling localeconomy, but at a cost; historicbuildings were demolished,
neighborhoods were threatened,
and the original downtown wasnearly erased in favor of high-
rise development. In response,
residents began to organize at
the grassroots level, pushingback and ultimately helping toreframe the future of Pasadena.
Today, those same tensions areresurfacing. Questions about
growth, density, and identity areonce again at the forefront ofour everyday experience, and inmany ways, the stakes are evenhigher. As Pasadena Heritageapproaches its 50th year, this
moment offers a chance to look
closely at how past advocacyshaped the city we know today,
and what that history can tellus about the challenges ahead.
Preservation has never been
just about saving buildings; itis about continuity, memory,
and ensuring that the storieswe carry forward reflect thefull breadth of our community,
including those that have toooften been overlooked.
What happened in the 1970s,
how a new vision took hold, andwhat preservation means forPasadena today will be exploredin this talk by Executive DirectorDr. Bridget Lawlor.
Join Pasadena Heritage as welaunch a month of celebratingpreservation. Doors will open atthe historic Blinn House at 5:30
PM, with light refreshmentsserved. The program will beginat 6:00 PM.
Blinn House is located 160 N
Oakland Ave.
