Arcadia Police Blotter
MISSING TEEN FOUND
The Arcadia Police Department became aware of a critical missing person, Ms. Bora Kim, 19 years
old from Arcadia, at about 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013. Officers learned Ms. Kim had
posted concerning messages on Facebook leading friends and family to believe she was contemplating
suicide over a relationship. Ms. Kim was last seen in Arcadia earlier in the day and was thought to be
headed to Pasadena City College. At about 6:00 p.m., Ms. Kim called a friend via cell phone and said
she was lost in the mountains near Pasadena, and she could hear a waterfall. Friends told officers Ms.
Kim has spent time in Eaton Canyon, Pasadena, and believed she was possibly there.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Altadena Station, commenced a collaborative search
and rescue effort in Eaton Canyon until about 2:00 a.m. this morning. LASD, along with teams from
Altadena, Montrose, and Sierra Madre Search and Rescue teams prepared to resume the search
at daybreak. About 7:00 a.m., Ms. Kim was spotted in Eaton Canyon. A Los Angeles County Fire
Department Airship was called in and the crew conducted an airlift rescue of Ms. Kim who was
transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Ms. Kim appeared to be in good condition, but understandably cold, and is being cared for at the
hospital. Family members were contacted and will be reunited with Ms. Kim. Thankfully, she was
found in good condition, due in part to a great collaborative effort by caring family, friends, rescuers,
and media. Officers are with Ms. Kim and will be speaking with her about the incident.
