DADS PLAY FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS IN THE ST. RITA ANNUAL
TURKEY BOWL

Sierra Madre, CA – It was a fast-
paced, physical Thanksgiving
morning at Sierra Madre
Elementary as St. Rita dads hit
the field to raise money for their
school and show off their football
prowess! The St. Rita Annual
Turkey Bowl is great family fun
as crowds come to support the
dads divided into Teams White
and Dark Meat.

In this 7th annual event, flags
were flying as the intrepid dads
fought for 2013 bragging rights.
While Team Dark Meat put up
a valiant struggle, White Meat
claimed a narrow victory with a
final score of 34-27.

Most notable among the warriors
were Gary Bacio’s 3 touchdowns,
Sean Mispagel’s 2 interceptions,
Matt Birkett’s dive for a first
down and Vic Smith’s tip catch
for a touchdown. The morning
was filled with spectacular runs,
flag pulling and feats of athletic
expertise by everyone that took
the field.

Pat McKiernan, gracious organizer of this event, awarded MVP to Dan Bourgault for his White Meat quarterbacking skills and the Most
Valiant award to Vic Smith for the several clutch catches for TDs for his Dark Meat compatriots.

THE REEL DEAL: by Ben Show

FROZEN

I grew up as a Disney child,
raised with the classic musicals like
Cinderella, Pocahontas, The Little
Mermaid, and the rest of the Princess
movies. Recently, after seeing
movies like Cars 2 and not hearing
anything about Planes (which
had been given a sequel), I have
felt as if Disney has lost touch with
their roots. They have moved away
from quality story, characters, and
animating and moved towards sequels,
franchises, and merchandizing.
However, Frozen has given me
hope that even Disney can bring
the magic back.

 In the kingdom of Arendelle,
two sisters were separated at a
young age. Elsa (Idina Menzel) was raised to be Queen and Anna
(Kristen Bell) was never allowed to see her. Anna and Elsa’s lives
of loneliness end on Coronation Day when Elsa will become ruler.
When they open the gates and let people in, they all learn why
the mysterious castle of Arendelle had its door closed for so long.

Everything about this movie is perfect. The characters are
enjoyable, charming, and funny. The story is new, interesting,
and turns the whole idea of Princess movies on its head. And the
animation is better than I have seen in a very long time. One of
my big problems with old Disney films was their overuse of musical
numbers. Frozen cuts back on the singing and makes the few
songs that are performed masterpieces. Frozen is definitely the
movie to see this holiday season.
