BIG CHANGES AT
SIERRA MADRE’S
INTERNET RADIO
STATION:

The Board of Directors of Village
Vine Online has decided to
move the organization in a new
direction. In keeping with our
mission of community service, we
are discontinuing 24/7 live audio streaming. In order to better serve the
community, our focus will be on providing live audio and video webcasts
and podcasts of community events, podcasts of hosted shows home-
grown here in Sierra Madre, video and audio webcasts and podcasts of
community sports events, and, by the end of the summer, we will present
a community blog, with guest host bloggers rotating every few months.

CITIZEN WEBCASTERS: Part of our new approach is to utilize “citizen
webcasters” living here in town. We are now actively recruiting people
who can attend public events, and, utilizing equipment as simple as their
smart phones, webcast those events through the Village Vine web site.
Contact us at hostvi@yahoo.com if you would like to volunteer. Training
will be provided.

CITIZEN PODCASTERS: We are looking for podcasters who might like
to share their home-grown podcasts on the Village Vine web site. Subjects
for podcasts could include original music, gardening, cars, dogs, water
conservation, sports, etc. The subject matter for potential podcasts is only
limited to the degree the community might have interest in it. Contact us
at hostvi@yahoo.com if you would be interested in podcasting with us.

1630 AM EMERGENCY RADIO &

Free on-air publicity for local events

Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts
for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events.
PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates
24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.

Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre
Community Information Radio. The station covers the city of Sierra
Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia.

Your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity
• Be open to the public
• Be of general interest to local citizens

Just
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event
and e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com.

New! THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS

From The Editor: A few days ago, the Mountain Views News received an email from a Sierra Madre
resident who had a very inspiring story to share. It’s short and to the point, but reminds us of the little
things that happen to all of us, the small things that we fail to celebrate. At her suggestion, I am starting
a new feature, “The Kindness of Strangers”, and encourage readers to share their stories. I can assure
you, they will be uplifting especially in contrast to all the the challenges and issues we have to deal with
daily. So, if you have something you would like to share, please submit it to: editor@mtnviewsnews.com.
It doesn’t matter where you were or when it happened. Share your good expeiences in hope that it might
bring a little joy and/or inspire someone. -Susan Henderson, Editor/Publisher MVNews

From Patricia Locher, Sierra Madre

Last Tuesday morn, I went out to bring in the trash barrels , from the curb. As I went to get
the last one, I saw the Athens Street Sweeper rapidly coming up my way. Knowing I could
not grab that barrel in time , I held up my hand, hoping the driver might stop in time for me.?

Well , he not only stopped the big, ole sweeper, short, but he literally jumped off his high
perch, and hauled that barrel over to me , on the sidewalk!

I was so surprised, but managed to thank him , Profusely, still.

He grinned, tipped his head , scrambled up to his high seat, and was off up the street, doing
his thankless job!

I am sorry that I did not get his name, so I could tell his company of his fine gallantry.

It made me think, however, that we should be able to thank more folks for their " small acts of kindness.”

So, how about a column , “The kindness of Strangers!” Maybe it would foster more good will amongst us? You never know?

(By the way, the kind man worked for Athens Services.)
