Mountain View News Saturday, October 8, 2016

 Darrell Emil Smith was
born at home in Canton,
Ohio December 19, 1937,
and passed away September
21, 2016 after a long and
valiant battle with cancer.
He was the third of five
children; older brother,
Donald (deceased), sister,
Judy Rouse, brother, Rodney,
and sister, Lois Smith.

 Darrell worked on the
Mercury Missile program
at Cape Canaveral, Florida
in his early 20’s then joined
IBM where he became a
company instructor, moving
to New York and eventually
to Lompoc, California. In
1974, he knew he was in
California to stay.

 Darrell is survived by
his beloved wife, Brina,
children Craig Smith and
Jodi Lyn Smith Bravo and
stepsons Eric and Matthew
Cantley. He was prayerfully
involved in the lives of
his grandchildren, Erik
Nicholas Smith and Kellee
Elizabeth Smith Trejo.
He is pictured here with
granddaughter, Kellee, just
after she returned from
Army Basic Training in Fort
Leonard Wood, MO in 2015.

Darrell met the love of his
life, Brina Kim Smith, in
2004 and they were married
May 17, 2008. He was a
member of First Church
of the Nazarene, Pasadena
where he sang in the choir
for many years. And he was
a dancer! Darrell and Brina
met at a dance and danced
as often as possible all over
the world, even participating
in the Sierra Madre July 4th
Parade in a group of square
dancers, dancing down
Sierra Madre Blvd. Darrell
loved God with all his heart,
and when he was no longer
ambulatory, he carried
on a prayer ministry for
hundreds of people. Darrell
was an inspiration, loved
by everyone who knew him
and now he is dancing with
the angels.

 Mindy (A364226) is a
4-year-old, spayed female,
white and black pit bull
mix. She enjoys being
petted and loves meeting
new people on visits out on
our Mobile Unit, where she
has done well around other
dogs her size. When she’s
not busy winning over our
volunteers and staff with
her friendly, affectionate
personality, Mindy enjoys
showing off her obedience
skills for a treat. This smart
girl knows her sit, down and
stay commands, earning
her a Blue Ribbon from our
behavior staff and reducing
her adoption fee to $100.

 The adoption fee for dogs
is normally $125, but since
Mindy has earned her Blue
Ribbon her fee is just $100.
This fee includes the spay or
