10TH RELAY FOR LAFFS MARCH 19

The Arcadia Relay For Life has been raising much needed funds to help the American Cancer 
Society find a cure for cancer since 2003.

RelayLaffsThis year we’re joining forces with the cities of Monrovia and Duarte to create the 
M.A.D. Relay to be held on April 16, 2016 at the beautiful Santa Anita Park. A really fun part of 
this fundraising effort is the annual Relay For Laffs comedy show! 

The team of Yvonne Rosas Petty, Karen Petersen, Carla Thomas, Leslie Villavicencio, Noemi 
Biely Linda Hudson, and Brenda Valeriano-Faltes; has been helping me make this clean comedy 
show a great success for a decade!

Please join us for our landmark 10th annual show on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Ice House

For the period of Sunday, January 31st, through Saturday, 
February 6th, the Police Department responded to 1,124 calls 
for service of which 147 required formal investigations. The 
following is a summary report of the major incidents handled 
by the Department during this period.

Sunday, January 31:

1. Just before 12:57 a.m., officers responded to McDonald’s, 
143 East Foothill Boulevard, regarding an intoxicated subject. 
Upon contacting the 47-year-old male from Monrovia, 
the officer noticed symptoms of alcohol intoxication and 
determined the suspect was unable to care for himself. He 
was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for 
booking. 

2. Around 10:03 p.m., an officer initiated consensual contact 
with a subject in a vehicle parked in the Motel 6 parking lot, 
225 Colorado Place. A records check of the vehicle revealed 
it had been stolen out of the City of Pasadena. During a 
search of the vehicle, the officer located numerous bags 
of various pills, a scale, one stolen check, and nearly 100 
needles. A records check of the suspect revealed he had two 
outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The officer discovered 
the suspect was not aware the vehicle had not been paid for 
and was therefore charged with Receiving Stolen Property. 
The 38-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested and 
transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Monday, February 1:

3. At about 9:22 a.m., an officer responded to the 76 Gas 
Station, 102 East Duarte Road, regarding a robbery report. 
The officer determined an unknown suspect had entered the 
victim’s vehicle through an unlocked door and grabbed the 
victim’s purse. The victim chased the suspect, who pushed 
the victim causing her to fall, The suspect fled with the purse 
to an awaiting vehicle.

 The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’8”, heavy 
set, with a shaved head. The suspect fled in a dark colored 
Lexus sedan. The investigation is ongoing.

4. At approximately 9:10 p.m., an officer responded to a 
residence in the 1900 block of South Third Avenue regarding 
a burglary report. Surveillance footage revealed two suspects 
entered the residence by smashing the rear glass door, stole 
the victim’s purse, and fled prior to officers’ arrival. The 
investigation is ongoing. 

Tuesday, February 2:

5. Around 1:21 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on 
a vehicle in the area of Mayflower Avenue and Chestnut 
Avenue in the City of Monrovia due to a report of a drunk 
driver leaving the 76 Gas Station at 102 East Huntington 
Drive. Upon contacting the driver, the officer noticed vomit 
on the suspect’s clothing and several prescription medication 
bottles inside the vehicle. Through a series of tests, the officer 
determined the 61-year-old male from El Monte was driving 
under the influence of drugs. The suspect was arrested and 
transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

6. Just after 10:28 p.m., an officer responded to the 7-Eleven 
Convenience Store, 1003 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding 
a vandalism report. An investigation revealed a 49-year-old 
male transient was banging on a rear door to the location 
causing the rust-weakened door to break. A records check 
revealed the suspect also had two outstanding misdemeanor 
warrants. Due to medical issues, he was cited and released.

Wednesday, February 3:

7. Shortly after 7:02 a.m., an officer conducted an enforcement 
stop on a vehicle in the Extended Stay parking lot, 401 East 
Santa Clara Street, for having expired registration. A records 
check of the vehicle revealed the registration had expired; 
however, the vehicle displayed a 2016 registration sticker. 
The driver, a 53-year-old male from Duarte, knowingly 
placed the forged sticker on his vehicle. The suspect was 
arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

8. At about 5:54 p.m., an officer responded to All Season’s 
Children’s Learning Center, 2612 South Baldwin Avenue, 
regarding a vehicle burglary report. The officer determined 
an unknown suspect smashed the front passenger window, 
stole the victim’s purse from the front seat, and fled in an 
unknown direction. No suspects were seen.

Thursday, February 4:

9. At approximately 6:53 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic 
stop on a vehicle in the area of Foothill Boulevard and 
Michillinda Avenue for having expired registration. Upon 
contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 27-year-
old female from Monrovia was driving with a suspended 
license. She was cited and released in the field. The vehicle 
was impounded for 30 days.

10. Around 2:09 p.m., an officer responded to Walgreens, 
140 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a petty theft report. 
The officer determined an unknown suspect stole the 
victim’s unlocked bicycle from the front of the location. The 
victim witnessed the theft.

 The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a 
mustache and goatee, wearing a gray short sleeve shirt over 
a black, long sleeve hooded sweatshirt. The investigation is 
ongoing.

Friday, February 5: 

11. At about 9:34 a.m., an officer responded to a construction 
site in the 1800 block of Tulip Lane regarding an industrial 
accident. An investigation revealed a roofer accidentally 
fell from the single story roof causing a fractured skull and 
broken wrist. Arcadia Fire responded and transported the 
34-year-old male from El Monte to Huntington Memorial 
Hospital for treatment. OSHA was notified.

12. Just after 12:59 p.m., an officer responded to a residence 
in the 400 block of Rosemarie Drive regarding a fraud 
report. The officer discovered an unknown suspect opened 
a credit card account in the victim’s name and charged 
more than $4,000 to the account. The victim does not know 
how the suspect obtained her personal information. The 
investigation is ongoing.

Saturday, February 6:

13. Just after 9:31 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on 
a vehicle in the area of Duarte Road and Myrtle Avenue for 
not having a front license plate. Upon contacting the driver, 
the officer discovered the 21-year-old male from Temple 
City was driving with a suspended license. He was cited and 
released in the field. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

14. At approximately 7:13 p.m., an officer responded 
to the intersection of North Second Avenue and East 
Colorado Boulevard regarding an injury traffic collision. 
An investigation revealed Party-1 struck Party-2 while both 
vehicles were attempting to cross the intersection. The driver 
of Party-2 complained of shoulder pain. The officer was 
unable to determine fault.

RUN, FAMILY WALK AND ROLL SET FOR MARCH 12

Park Closure Violation – Suspect Arrested February 4 at 
11:19 p.m., officers were using the services of the Foothill 
Air Support Team helicopter on a call and requested they 
check the roof of the Library in the 300 block of South 
Myrtle on their way out of the city. During the check, a 
subject was spotted in the bushes at the park. Officers 
responded to the park and located a subject sleeping in 
the bushes. They arrested the subject for being in the park 
during closed hours and he received a citation to appear in 
court on the charges. 

Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – 
Suspect Arrested February 7 at 7:28 p.m., an officer on patrol 
stopped a vehicle for a vehicle code violation at Myrtle and 
Duarte. During the investigation, the officer determined the 
driver was under the influence of marijuana. The driver was 
arrested and later released on a citation to appear in court. 

Park Closure Violation/Possession of a Controlled 
Substance – Suspect Arrested February 7 at 11:41 p.m., 
an officer was patrolling a park in the 600 block of South 
Shamrock and found a subject in the park after hours. 
During the investigation, the officer discovered the subject 
was also in possession of a controlled substance. The subject 
was arrested for the charges and was later released on a 
citation to appear in court.

Grand Theft Auto February 8 at 9:17 a.m., a vehicle was 
reported stolen from the 300 block of Genoa. The vehicle 
is a green, 2-door, 1997 Honda Accord. The investigation 
is continuing. 

Hit & Run Traffic Collision February 8 at 11:50 p.m., officers 
responded to the report of a hit and run traffic collision in 
the 300 block of South Shamrock. A vehicle traveling north 
on Shamrock struck a parked vehicle and fled the area. The 
suspect vehicle was possibly red or burgandy in color. The 
investigation is continuing. 

Grand Theft Auto February 9 at 2:16 a.m., the victim of 
a grand theft auto reported her vehicle was taken by her 
grandaughter, who resides with her. The suspect told her 
grandmother over the phone that she was in Los Angeles. 
The vehicle is a silver, 2011 Buick Regal. The vehicle was 
entered into the law enforcement stolen vehicle system and 
the juvenile suspect was entered as a missing/runaway. The 
investigation is continuing. 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Warrant – Suspect 
Arrested February 9 at 2:51 a.m., a suspicous person, 
possibly involved in drug activity, was reported in the area 
of a business in the 100 block of West Foothill. Officers 
responded, contacted the subject, and a computer check 
revealed he had two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. 
He was arrested for the warrants and was also found to be in 
possession of drug paraphernaila. 

Commercial Burglary February 9 at 4:35 a.m., police 
received numerous calls reporting a burglary in progress 
at a business in the 100 block of East Huntington. The 
reporting parties were employees at the business location. 
They reported that a male suspect broke the glass to the 
front doors and entered the building, triggering the alarm. 
Officers arrived on scene and removed the employees 
from the location. A search of the building was conducted, 
but the suspect was not located. The investigation is 
continuing. 

Grand Theft Auto February 9 at 6:48 p.m., a vehicle was 
reported stolen from the 1000 block of Orange Avenue. The 
victim was on vacation and had left her vehicle parked at 
her residence. When she returned, she noticed her vehicle 
had been stolen. The vehicle is a white, 4door, 2011 Honda 
Accord. The investigation is continuing. 

Defrauding the DMV – Suspect Arrested February 9 at 
9:48 p.m., an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle traveling 
west with its emergency flashers on in the 700 block of West 
Huntington. The officer completed a computer check of the 
vehicle, which revealed the registration had been expired 
since 2009, but there was a 2016 registration sticker on the 
license plate. The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted 
the driver, who admitted to defrauding the DMV. The 
registration tab was from another vehicle he owned. The 
driver received a citation to appear in court on the charges 
and was released in the field. The vehicle was impounded 
for expired registration. 

Trespassing/Under the Influence of a Controlled 
Substance/Violation of Gang Injunction Court Order 
– Suspect Arrested February 9 at 11:51 p.m., police 
responded to a business in the 100 block of West Foothill 
regarding a subject observed by security personnel 
climbing to the roof of the location. Officers arrived 
and, with the assistance of a police helicopter, located 
the subject on the roof. The officers climbed the fire 
access ladder and detained the subject. A Monrovia Fire 
Department ladder truck was called to assist in lowering 
the suspect and officers from the rooftop. The subject 
was arrested for trespassing. He was also determined to 
be under the influence of a controlled substance and in 
violation of the gang injunction court order, which were 
added to his charges. 

Possession of Stolen Property – Suspect Arrested February 
10 at 4:03 a.m., an officer was on patrol in the 900 block of 
South Mountain and recognized a subject riding a bicycle 
that was very similar to one that had been stolen the previous 
day. The officer stopped the bicyclist and confirmed the 
bike was in fact stolen. The suspect was arrested for being 
in possession of stolen property and taken into custody. The 
suspect was later released with a citation to appear in court 
on the charges. 

DUARTE, CA, February 9, 2016 – Hundreds are 
expected and the community at large is invited to 
participate in the 8th Annual Hayden Memorial 
5K Run, Family Walk & Roll Saturday, March 
12. The nonprofit Hayden Child Care Center 
at Santa Teresita is presenting the event, co-
sponsored by the City of Duarte. 

 Participants are invited to register online at 
www.hayden5k.com. Early registration, prior to 
March 5, is: $35 for adults, 15 years of age and 
older; Children ages 2 to 14, $14; Wheelchair 
teams, up to three persons, $35. Additional 
fees will apply for registration on race day. All 
proceeds from the event will benefit the Hayden 
Child Care Center.

 The 5k Run will begin at 9 a.m., off the 
campus of Santa Teresita, just east of Buena 
Vista St. on Royal Oaks Dr. The 5k course will 
take participants east on Royal Oaks Dr. for 
approximately half the course distance where 
runners will loop back toward the finish line 
at Santa Teresita on the Royal Oaks Bike Trail. 
Following the racing competition, from 10:30 
a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the public is invited to attend 
the Family Fun Day, Vendor Fair and Car Show 
in Santa Teresita’s southeast parking lot area, 
819 Buena Vista St. where all can enjoy delicious 
food, activities including a Zumba class and 
lively entertainment. 

 The Hayden 5K is an annual fundraiser for 
the Child Care Center and all proceeds will 
be applied towards enhancing programs. The 
Hayden Child Care Center assists families in 
the spiritual, social, and academic formation of 
children, providing pre-school and kindergarten
