The public is encouraged to attend Tuesday’s City

that will include outgoing City Clerk Nancy Shollenberger,
Treasurer Richard Mays and Mayor
Capoccia and Mayor Pro Tem Gene Goss.

A special recognition will be held the following day
for Shollenberger, who retired after serving Sierra

A FRIEND IN NEED......

Friends rally to support well
known Sierra Madre realtor
Emily Duggan

 By Susan Henderson

There are many advantages in living in a small, tight
knit community like Sierra Madre. Of course there
are the obvious, public safety, quality housing, good
schools, all things that over the years Emily Duggan
has pointed out to families that come to town. However,
many say that the most valuable part of living
in Sierra Madre in particular are the relationships that
you build with your neighbors and friends. It is such
a relationship that is reaching out to the community
to help Emily Duggan as she faces the challenges of
battling cancer.

Here is what her friend Sandy Duvall, “For over 25
years Emily has been a very successful and well known
real estate agent for Century 21 in Sierra Madre. For
the last 10 years she has been caring for her husband
who was stricken with Parkinson’s disease, making her
the sole provider for the household.

As her personal trainer and friend, I noticed Emily
having balance issues which were first diagnosed as
Vertigo. As time went on, we realized it was something
more serious. On February 9th, Emily had her first
brain surgery to remove the tumor. A week later she
came home to recover and was scheduled to start radiation
in March. In fact, the photo on your left was taken
at the Wistaria Vine around that time.

After consulting with doctors at The City of Hope, Emily
decided to have a second brain surgery to remove
more of the cancer. As a result of the second surgery,
she is now in a rehab facility. As she is working to get
better, she is unable to care for herself or her husband.

Many of you who know Emily know she is one of the
most caring and giving people you will ever meet. She
has always gone out of her way to help others and now it is time for us to help her.”

To that end, a GOFUNDME account has been established to help Emily and Tom during this extraordinarily
challenging time. You can make a donation to Emily by logging on to https://www.gofundme.
com/uazjq8gc . Any amount will help.

The Mountain Views News also asks your support with this effort. It doesn’t matter who you are or
how great your insurance might be, treating cancer is expensive. And for a self-employed person it is
financially devastating. As a community I have witnessed our uniting to support each other in the midst
of personal crisis. Now is such a time. Please donate today and share Emily’s story with your family and
friends.

It has been said, ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed’, meaning that if a person helps you in your time of
need then they are a true friend.

Community, let’s be a true friend to Emily.
