 Public response to South
Pasadena Public Library’s
online Strategic Planning
survey has been very strong
with about 700 community
members completing the
survey. The online survey was
utilized to collect opinions,
suggestions, and thoughts about
the Library from the public. The
Library’s Strategic Planning
Consultant Joe Matthews also
conducted a Strategic Planning
Community Forum on
October 22 in the Community
Room. It was attended by about
20 individuals, comprised of
members of the public, the
Friends of the Library, the
Library Board of Trustees, and
the Library staff. The Library
is very appreciative of all the
input from the public from
both the Community Forum
and the Online Forum.

 Mr. Matthews has recently
published four new easy-to-
read documents that offer
analyses of the public’s Library
Strategic Planning responses:
“Analysis of Online Survey—
‘Inspiring Ideas,” “Analysis
of the Community-Related
Questions,” “Online Survey
Appendix, and “Online Survey
Related Questions”. The
documents can be found under
“News” on the homepage of
the South Pasadena Library
Website and southpasadenaca.

Landscape and Lighting
Maintenance District Update

 The City of South Pasadena
has initiated proceedings
regarding the assessment
used to maintain City urban
forestry and street lights. The
assessment has been in place
since 1993 and there has not
been an increase since 1997
while the cost of maintenance
of our aging urban forestry and
street lighting has continued
to increase. The proposed
assessment increase will
be exclusively used for the
maintenance of our forestry
and street lights.

 A Community Meeting has
been scheduled for January
11, at 6:00 pm in the City
Council Chambers to review
the proposed Landscape and
Lighting Assessment District
Update.

A ballot and notice was mailed
to the City of South Pasadena
Property owners on December
2, 2016. As a property
owner, you are able to vote
for (or against) the proposed
assessment is clearly indicated
on the top of the ballot. This
figure represents the maximum
amount that may be assessed
for the urban forestry and
street lighting benefiting your
property. The total is based on
estimates of operational costs,
which includes administrative
and other necessary expenses.

If you lost your ballot or it did
not arrive in the mail the City
Clerk’s Office can assist you by
providing a replacement ballot.
Please contact the City Clerk’s
Office at 626-403-7230.

 The City Council will be
considering this matter at a
Public Hearing on January 18,
2017 at 7:30 pm in the City
Council Chambers located at
1424 Mission Street, South
Pasadena, California. The
ballot must be completed and
returned prior to the close of
the January 18, 2017 Public
Hearing, so please return your
assessment ballots.

 A Community Meeting has
been scheduled for January
11, at 6:00 pm in the City
