The Gold Line offers some fun
getaways and this is the second
in a series of destinations and
events along the Metro that
standout to us here at the
Mountain Views News. The
fair for Metro is $1.75 one way
and you need to remember to
have a TAP card (available at
the train station).

 The Grammy Museum will
celebrate one of the most
pivotal years in music — and
the photographer who captured
it — with a special limited
showing of Jim Marshall’s
1967. Organized by The San
Francisco Arts Commission
in conjunction with the 50th
anniversary of San Francisco’s
Summer of Love, the exhibition
will feature a selection of 60
images from the thousands
Jim Marshall took while he
documented history in the
making. This special exhibition
will be in the special Exhibits
Gallery on the second floor
from March 10, through May
14,

 “We are honored to partner
with The San Francisco Arts
Commission to celebrate the
50th anniversary of one of
the most vibrant moments in
music history — the Summer
of Love,” said Nwaka Onwusa,
Grammy Museum Curator.
“During that year, Jim Marshall
was equally as important as
the artists who were making
history with their voices and
instruments; his instrument
was his camera. We are thrilled
to celebrate Marshall and his
achievements in capturing a
memorable moment in music
and San Francisco history.”

 “San Francisco was a hotbed
for musical exploration
and reinvention,” said Scott
Goldman, Vice President of
the Grammy Foundation and
MusiCares, who played a large
role in bringing the exhibition
to the Grammy Museum.
“Through his photographs,
Jim Marshall told the stories of
these artists who were coming
up in the San Francisco music
scene during this time, the
impact the Monterey Pop
Festival had on San Francisco
and the thousands of music fans
and youth who were forever
changed by that year. It was an
exhilarating time for music,
and it’s exciting that visitors to
this exhibition will get to relive
that through his work.”

 Shown in chronological order,
the exhibition, co-curated by
SFAC Galleries Director Meg
Shiffler and Amelia Davis of
Jim Marshall Photography LLC,
features a trove of photographs
taken by Marshall that capture
the vitality of the neighborhood
and the multiple scenes and
movements that called the
Haight and San Francisco
their home. Visitors can follow
Marshall as he photographs
some of the most important
artists of 1967 — from the
Grateful Dead’s last concert in
the Haight to an album cover
for Jefferson Airplane and Jimi
Hendrix’s historic free concert
in the Panhandle.

 The Grammy Museum
explores and celebrates the
enduring legacies of all forms
of music, the creative process,
the art and technology of
the recording process, and
the history of the premier
recognition of excellence in
recorded music. The Grammy
Museum features 30,000 square
feet of interactive permanent
and traveling exhibits, with four
floors of dynamic and engaging
multimedia presentations, and
is located within L.A. LIVE, the
downtown Los Angeles sports,
entertainment and residential
district.

 Tickets are available for
purchase on AXS.com or

As the Falcons and Patriots
fight to win the Su-purr Bowl,
animals at the Pasadena
Humane Society & SPCA
(PHS) are vying to steal your
heart at the Pasadena Humane
Society & SPCA’s Kitten Bowl
Tailgate Party, a fee-waived
adoption event sponsored
by an anonymous donor.
On Friday, February 3 and
Saturday, February 4, stop by
PHS to meet dogs, cats, rabbits
and other critters hoping to
score the ultimate touchdown,
a new home.

 To celebrate the big day,
shelter pets will take the field
in a game of epic cuteness. On
Friday, February 3, join us at
the 30 yard line in the Neely
Cat Center to watch adorable
kittens and cats swat toy
footballs around in hopes of
scoring a field goal. Our shelter
pups will command center
stage on Saturday, February
4, as they run football toys
down the field in our training
yard in the hopes of scoring a
touchdown.

 A giant scoreboard located
near the adoptions office will
showcase all adoptable pets at
PHS. A football-themed photo
booth will be set up outside the
adoptions office for visitors to
take photos. Those who share
their photos with #KittenBowl
will get a free toy or treat in the
PHS Shelter Shop.

 The PHS Kitten Bowl Tailgate
Party is part of a nationwide
event hosted by North Shore
Animal League as part of
Hallmark Channel’s Kitten
Bowl IV. North Shore Animal
League is providing free
giveaways that will be available
at PHS during the event.

 “We are thrilled to partner
with North Shore Animal
League and Hallmark Channel
to promote pet adoption in
our community,” says Julie
Bank, President and CEO of
the Pasadena Humane Society.
“Regardless of who you’re
rooting for in this year’s game,
finding animals loving homes is
a huge score.”

All dogs and cats will be spayed
or neutered, microchipped and
receive a set of vaccines before
going to their new homes. PHS
will be open during normal
adoption hours, Friday, 9:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday,
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Regular
adoption screening applies.

 The Pasadena Humane Society
& SPCA is located at 361 S.
Raymond Avenue in Pasadena,
California. To expedite the
adoption process, download
and print an adoption
application in advance on our
website. View all animals at the

Huntington Gets Unique
Edition of John Muir Writings

The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens
announced Wednesday that it has acquired a unique 10-volume
edition of The Life and Writings of John Muir (1916–1924)
that incorporates 260 original photographs—most by Herbert
W. Gleason (1855–1937), a nature photographer who inspired
the work of Ansel Adams. The items were purchased at The
Huntington’s 20th annual Library Collectors’ Council meeting
held last month.

The Council also purchased A Monograph on the Genus
Camellia (1819), an outsize volume containing sumptuous hand-
colored aquatint plates after watercolors by Clara Maria Pope (d.
1838), one of a small number of women in England who pursued
an artistic career in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Additional purchases included manuscripts by a close member
of Galileo’s circle and by a U.S. Revolutionary War officer, as well
as a genealogical roll of arms from the Elizabethan era.

“During the past two decades, the Library Collectors’ Council
has helped us acquire more than 100 significant items—including
rare books, individual manuscripts, archival collections, and
photographs—and spent nearly $3.9 million doing so,” said David
Zeidberg, Avery Director of the Library at The Huntington.

The Library Collectors’ Council is a group of 43 families who
assist in the development of the collections by supporting the
purchase of important works that the Library would not otherwise
be able to afford.

 Have you noticed something
different about traffic signal
boxes around South Pasadena
lately? For the second year
in a row the City of South
Pasadena partnered with the
South Pasadena Arts Council
(SPARC) to hire artists to
create artwork on ten traffic
signal boxes throughout
South Pasadena. Ten traffic
signal boxes were decorated at
locations across the City.

 The project enhances the visual
environment of the community
and extends public art to the
community in a creative way.
Traffic signal boxes, usually
painted drab grey or green,
have been enhanced and
transformed into creative
artworks as they are in many
cities around the country.

 SPARC develops programs
and events and collaborates
with other organizations in the
community to produce cultural
events.

For a complete list of traffic
signal boxes go to ci.south-
