 The San Marino City
Council is recruiting for
a City Manager, and has
selected the firm of CPS-
HR to conduct the search.
As part of the recruitment
process the City is seeking
input from the community,
and has developed an online
survey in both English and
Mandarin.

 “It’s important for the
City Council to know what
qualities our citizens believe
a City Manager must possess
to best serve the interests of
our city and our community.
What we hear will bear
heavily in our selection
process,” San Marino Mayor
Richard Sun said.

 Appointed by the San
Marino City Council, the
City Manager is the Chief
Executive Officer of the City,
overseeing the operations of
all the City’s departments.
The City Manager is
responsible for planning,
directing, and managing all
activities and operations of
the City, ensuring that all
public services are delivered
in the most efficient and
effective manner. The City
Manager also implements
policy decisions made
by the City Council and
facilitates the development
and implementation of City
goals and objectives.

 The City of San Marino
utilizes a council manager
system of local government.
Five Council Members are
elected in November of odd
calendar years, serving four-
year terms. The City Council
has taken steps to consolidate
its elections with statewide
elections and will be moving
to even year elections in
2022. The five Council
Members serve without any
financial compensation, and
each year the City Council
elects one member to serve
as mayor.

 The City’s 2016-2017
adopted budget reflects
general fund revenues
of $26.6 million and
expenditures of $25.3 million
(which includes $900,000 in
capital expenses).

 The salary range for
City Manager is $180,000
to $200,000, with the
starting rate dependent on
qualifications. Additionally,
the City offers a $600
monthly car allowance and
a $200 monthly technology
Allowance.

 The survey can be found
at ci.san-marino.ca.us.
Survey responses should be
submitted prior to June 5.

Donations Needed for
Operation Cookie

South Pasadena “Operation
Cookie” for hospitalized,
homeless, and special needs
veterans is almost here. The
veterans really enjoy home-
made cookies, and we hope
you already have your best
cookie recipe planned. But
donations of local bakery and
pre-packaged cookies are also
welcome and we always need
sugar free cookies.

 “Operation Cookie” delivers
decorative containers of
cookies to Veteran’s Hospitals,
to the Wounded Warriors
Battalion at Camp Pendleton,
to Military Women in Need,
the Foundation for Women
Warriors, and to other groups
serving special needs veterans.
We remember our homeless
veterans as well. Your support
is more important than ever
for the increasing number of
veterans who we will remember
with your cookies.

 You may deliver your cookies
(minimum of two dozen)
to the Clubhouse at 1424
Fremont Avenue between the
hours of 7:00 am and 11:30
am, Wednesday, May 24th.
Alternate drop off time is
the evening before (4pm–7
pm). Convenient curbside
service is available both days.
We also hope you will be
able to volunteer some time
with us helping on the cookie
“assembly line,” or packing the
cookie boxes in cartons, or
helping transport cookies to the
various hospital and veterans
groups. Financial support is
also welcome. For information
or to volunteer: call or text 213-
300-9305 / Email: spwc1899@

San Marino Recognizing and
Honoring Those Who Serve

The City of San Marino wishes
to honor community members
who are actively serving in
the U.S. Armed Forces or
attending a military academy
by displaying a personalized
street banner in recognition of
their service. The banners will
be on display in the center of
town from early September
through early/mid-November.
The banners will then be
presented to each honoree (or
a family member) at a special
Thanksgiving Breakfast in
November.

Banners will be offered at no
cost to the serviceperson or his/
her family. It is the City’s hope
that this project can be funded
entirely through donations.

In order to qualify, honorees
must meet two general
guidelines:

 First, the honoree must
be on active duty with any
branch of the the U.S. Armed
Forces (Army, Navy, Air
Force, Marines, Coast Guard
or National Guard) or be
attending a military service
academy.

 Second, the honoree must be
a current or former San Marino
resident, or live in the San
Marino Unified School District
boundary, or be a high school
graduate of either San Marino
High School or Southwestern
Academy.

 To apply for the program,
complete the application
at ci.san-marino.ca.us/
DocumentCenter/View/3170
and submit before July 10.

 Individuals, organizations or
business owners who would
like to support this program
can make donations in any
amount they choose.

If you have any questions, call
the Recreation Department at
(626) 403-2200.
