ARCADIA AMERICANA FESTIVAL

Arcadia hosts its first outdoor country festival with Knott’s Berry Farm’s

favorite bluegrass band 

For the period of Sunday, June 24th, through Saturday, 
June 30th, the Police Department responded to 
867 calls for service, of which 105 required formal 
investigations. The following is a summary report 
of the major incidents handled by the Department 
during this period.

Sunday, June 24

 Shortly before 1:28 a.m., officers responded to the 
area of Baldwin Avenue and the 210 Freeway regarding 
a group of reckless drivers. The officer conducted an 
enforcement stop on one of the vehicles for speeding. 
The 20-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested 
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

 At approximately 12:49 p.m., an officer conducted 
a welfare check on a subject lying on the floor near 
LA Fitness, 1325 South Baldwin Avenue. Upon 
contacting him, the subject started urinating in public. 
The officer also saw an open can of alcohol next to the 
man. The 59-year-old male from Duarte was arrested 
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Monday, June 25:

1. Just after 5:44 a.m., an officer responded to the 
00 block of West Floral Avenue regarding a vehicle 
burglary report. The officer discovered an unknown 
suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and stole a 
hospital badge, car charger, lunch box and various 
pieces of paperwork. No suspects were seen and no 
witnesses were located. 
At approximately 5:57 a.m., an officer responded to 
Cabreras, 625 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a commercial 
burglary report. An investigation revealed unknown 
suspect(s) smashed a rear glass door and activated the 
alarm. No loss has been reported. It is believed the 
suspects were scared off by the alarm. The investigation 
is ongoing. 
Around 11:05 a.m., an officer responded to the Santa 
Anita Race Track, 245 West Huntington Drive, 
regarding a battery report. An altercation between 
two elderly siblings escalated when the brother hit 
the sister causing a black eye. The 60-year-old male 
transient was arrested and transported to the Arcadia 
City Jail for booking. 
Just before 2:08 p.m., an officer received notification 
that an Automated License Plate Reader System 
located a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Live 
Oak Avenue and Sixth Avenue. The vehicle was 
located and during a search of the vehicle, a meth pipe 
was found. The suspect, a 35-year-old male from El 
Monte, was arrested and transported to the Arcadia 
City Jail for booking. 


Tuesday, June 26:

 At about 5:36 p.m., an officer responded to 
Nordstrom, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a 
counterfeit report. The officer determined the suspect 
passed $200 in fraudulent bills on June 11th. The 
suspect, a 24-year-old female from Long Beach is 
outstanding at the time of this report. 

Wednesday, June 27:

 Shortly after 9:00 a.m., an officer responded to 
the Hampton Inn Hotel, 311 East Huntington Drive, 
regarding a theft report. Surveillance footage revealed 
an unknown male suspect stole the victim’s backpack 
while it was next to her. 

 The suspect is described as either Hispanic or 
Middle Eastern, 6’ tall, heavy set, wearing a white 
dress shirt and a navy blue suit coat. The investigation 
is ongoing. 

Thursday, June 28:

 Before 2:03 a.m., an officer responded to 7 Eleven, 
200 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a robbery report. 
Surveillance footage revealed the suspect entered the 
location, pointed a handgun at the clerk, demanded 
money, and fled in a white sedan. 

 The suspect is described as a male, 5’4”, 140 pounds, 
wearing a hooded jacket and light colored gloves. The 
investigation is ongoing. 

 Around 8:35 a.m., an officer responded to a residence 
in the 500 block of Workman Avenue regarding an 
audible alarm activation. An investigation revealed an 
unknown suspect shattered a rear glass door and fled 
once the alarm activated. No loss was reported and no 
witnesses were located. The investigation is ongoing. 

Friday, June 29: 

 At about 12:19 p.m., an officer conducted a vehicle 
check in the 1100 block of Colorado Boulevard. Upon 
contacting the driver of the parked vehicle, the officer 
detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his 
breath. The officer located numerous empty cans of 
alcohol inside of the vehicle and subsequently arrested 
the 37-year-old male from Covina for Drunk In Public. 
He was transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, June 30:

 Shortly after 3:31 a.m., an officer conducted an 
enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Baldwin 
Avenue and Duarte Road for straddling lanes. Upon 
contacting the driver, the officer detected a strong 
odor of alcohol emitting from his person. Through a 
series of tests, the officer determined the suspect was 
driving under the influence of alcohol. The 19-year-
old male from Arcadia was arrested and transported 
to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 
At approximately 8:34 a.m., an officer responded 
to the 1400 block of Santa Margarita Drive regarding 
a possible mail theft report. The victim discovered 
their mail box had been tampered with and there was 
no mail. Surveillance footage of a nearby residence 
showed a female suspect near the victim’s mailbox. 
The investigation is ongoing. 

 Just before 4:13 p.m., an officer responded to a 
residence in the 1100 block of Paloma Drive regarding 
a grand theft report. An investigation revealed an 
adult male used his grandfather’s credit card to 
make unauthorized purchases and the suspect also 
transferred money from his grandfather’s account 
into a mobile payment service account. The 28-year-
old male from Arcadia is outstanding at the time of 
this report. 


ARCADIA, CA - July 5, 2018 - The Arcadia 
Performing Arts Foundation will host its first Arcadia 
Americana Festival featuring a comedic bluegrass 
concert by Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies on Saturday, 
July 21, 2018 at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center 
Outdoor Courtyard. 

 Former Disneyland and current Knott’s Berry 
Farm group Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies will 
perform hilarious bluegrass renditions of timeless 
songs by beloved artists such as The Beatles, Elvis 
Presley, Bruce Springsteen, and more. Guests can 
enjoy a car show, raffles, bingo, face painting, and 
crafts for kids. Food is available for purchase.

(626) 821-1781. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., concert begins 
at 7:00 p.m. and the festival ends at 9:00 p.m.. Tickets are 
$15 for students, $25 general admission, and $35 VIP. 
General admission ticket holders may bring their lawn 
chairs or find open seating. VIP are seated in the front 
of the stage in round tables.

The Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation is a non-
profit community transformation organization that 
supports the Arcadia Performing Arts Center, arts 
education in the schools, and arts programming in the 
Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley region. The busiest

 For its impact-driven work, the Arcadia Performing 
Arts Foundation was the 2018 Make Change Award 
Nominee. In 2018, the foundation became a certifying 
organization for the President National Volunteer 
Award and the center made the 2018 Los Angeles 
Business Journal Top Performing Arts Center List.

 Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies have been entertaining 
audiences since 1994 when they first started out at 
the Disneyland resort in the world famous “Golden 
Horseshoe Saloon” as Billy Hill and the Hillbillies. They 
we able to entertain multiple generations throughout 
their 21 year run at Disney. Having performed tens 
of thousands of shows at the resort, their unique 
bluegrass style and humor is known across the country

MONROVIA, IT IS HOT! 

Closure of Canyon Park and HWP have been extended due to heat - Cooling center open at Monrovia 
Community Center

An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for Los Angeles County from Friday, July 6 through 
Saturday, July 9. In the valley, temperatures are expected to reach 107 to 112 degrees. 

We would like to remind everyone that precautions should be taken, especially by individuals who 
participate in outdoor activities, older adults, caretakers of infants and children, and those sensitive 
to the heat. This alert may be extended if weather conditions do not improve.

If you have an elderly or infirm neighbor without air conditioning, make sure that they get to 
a cooling center or other air conditioned space. The City of Monrovia has a designated cooling 
center located at:

Additionally, due to these dangerous conditions 
and possible fire danger, there will be an 
extension to the closure of Canyon Park and 
the Hillside Wilderness Preserve (HWP). Canyon 
Park and HWP will be closed Tuesday, July 
3, and reopen on Monday, July 9.

MONROVIA POLICE BLOTTER

Stolen Vehicle Recovered

June 28 at 10:15 a.m., an employee at a business in the 
3300 block of S. Peck Road called police to report a vehicle 
they had purchased turned out to be a stolen. An officer 
responded and recovered the stolen vehicle.

Graffiti Vandalism

June 28 at 11:18 a.m., an incident of vandalism was 
reported at a church in the 100 block of E. Foothill. The 
reporting party stated that sometime during the night and 
unknown suspect wrote gang related graffiti on the side of 
the church. The investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft

June 28 at 1:31 p.m., loss prevention at a business in the 
1600 block of S. Mountain called police to report a suspect 
that stole copper wire and fled the store without paying. 
An officer responded and searched for the suspect, but the 
suspect was not located. The investigation is continuing.

Residential Burglary

June 28 at 4:11 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a 
residence in the 400 block ofWildrose regarding a 
residential burglary. The victim reported his house was 
burglarized sometime during the night. The investigation 
is continuing.

Bank Robbery

June 28 at 5:34 p.m., officers responded to a bank robbery 
in the 100 block of W. Foothill. An adult male entered 
the bank and handed a note to the teller that said to give 
him all of the money and the teller complied. The suspect 
took the cash and fled the bank. Officers responded and 
searched the bank and the surrounding area, but the 
suspect was not

located. The investigation was handed over to the FBI.

Robbery

June 29 at 9:51 a.m., a robbery was reported at a gas station 
in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle. A male suspect entered the 
gas station and threatened the employee with a knife. The 
employee gave the suspect some cash and the suspect fled 
on foot. A witness saw the suspect enter the passenger side 
of a black SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Equinox with paper 
license plates. The investigation is continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

June 29 at 11:35 a.m., a vehicle burglary was reported 
in the 600 block of N. Canyon. The victim parked on 
Canyon and went hiking with her friends.When they got 
back to her vehicle, the victim found her window had 
been broken and items were taken. The

investigation is continuing.

Hit & Run Traffic Collision – Suspect Arrested

June 29 at 4:15 p.m., two drivers were involved in a 
vehicle collision and one fled the scene. The driver in the 
remaining vehicle had minor injuries. A witness chased 
down the suspect and told him to go back to the scene, 
which he eventually did. The driver that fled the scene 
was arrested for felony hit and run and driving without 
a license.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Evading – Suspect 
Arrested

June 29 at 9:10 p.m., a male subject called police and 
reported his ex-girlfriend was following him and had 
attempted to hit him with her vehicle. The subject was 
in the parking lot in front of the police station in the 100 
block of E. Lime. Officers responded and attempted to 
detain the female subject, who was still in her vehicle, but 
she fled and a short pursuit ensued. The suspect drove to 
her family's residence on Sherman and exited her vehicle, 
where she was arrested for evading and assault with a 
deadly weapon/vehicle.

Reckless Driving / Evading – Suspect Arrested

June 30 at 1:10 a.m., officers responded to reports of 
approximately 20 vehicles doing donuts in a shopping 
center parking lot in the 600 block of W. Huntington. 
When the officers arrived, they observed a vehicle driving 
recklessly and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, 
leading officers on a brief pursuit. The vehicle yielded after 
colliding with the pursuing police vehicle, causing minor 
damage. The driver, a male juvenile, wasarrested and 
taken into custody. He was booked and later released to 
his parents on a citation to appear in court on the charges.

Vandalism

June 30 at 11:50 a.m., a police sergeant was conducting 
extra patrol in the 300 block of W. Evergreen when he 
observed graffiti spray painted across the front of a vacant 
house. Additional graffiti was found spray painted inside 
the location, as well. The investigation is continuing.

Felony Vehicle / Wanted Person – Suspect Arrested

June 30 at 6:24 p.m., Monrovia police located a wanted 
vehicle and conducted a felony stop in the 100 block of W. 
Duarte, as the suspect was listed as armed and dangerous. 
The driver was a named suspect wanted by the East Los 
Angeles Sheriff’s Department for assault with a firearm 
on a deputy. The driver was detained and the Sheriff’s 
Department was notified. East Los Angeles deputies 
arrived on scene, arrested the suspect and took him into 
custody.

Driving Under the Influence / Hit and Run Traffic 
Collision – Suspect Arrested

June 30 at 7:55 p.m., a traffic collision was reported in 
the 700 block of W. Foothill. A vehicle traveling east on 
Foothill collided with several parked cars. The driver 
fled the scene on foot and was located by officers hiding 
under a vehicle nearby. The driver was determined to be 
intoxicated. He was arrested for DUI and for the Hit and 
Run collision.

Domestic Violence

June 31 at 1:16 a.m., officers responded to the 1300 
block of Alta Vista regarding a disturbance. A couple 
was arguing near a vehicle and at some point during the 
argument, the male subject drove away with the female 
hanging onto the outside of the vehicle, causing minor 
injuries. Officers checked several locations for the suspect 
with negative results. A wanted person entry was made 
into the law enforcement system for the

suspect.

Identity Theft – Suspect Arrested

July 1 at 11:00 a.m., an employee of a hotel in the 900 block 
of W. Huntington called police to report a female subject 
who used a fraudulent credit card to purchase a room. 
Officers arrived and spoke with the subject, who wasn't 
forth coming with information. Officers then contacted 
an out-of-state victim, who confirmed his credit card was 
compromised and had been used by the female subject. 
The female was arrested for identity theft.
