ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER

For the period of Sunday, August 5th, through Saturday, 
August 11th, the Police Department responded to 1,052 
calls for service, of which 126 required formal investigations. 
The following is a summary report of the major incidents 
handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, August 5:

 Shortly before 1:26 p.m., an officer responded Macy’s, 
400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. 
Surveillance footage revealed the suspect stole 25 Ralph 
Lauren polo shirts and exited without attempting to pay. 
The loss is valued at $2,125.00. 

 The suspect is described as a Hispanic male wearing 
a dark colored shirt and blue jeans. He fled in a Honda 
sedan. The investigation is ongoing. 

 At approximately 7:02 p.m., officers responded to the 
Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a 
fraud report. The victim stated he received a phone call 
from someone claiming to be from Southern California 
Edison debt collection service. He provided his personal 
banking information and later discovered the suspect 
attempted to complete a fraudulent transaction using his 
information. The victim does not know the identity of the 
suspect. 

Monday, August 6:

 Just after 3:11 p.m., officers responded to a residence 
in the 2200 block of Highland Oaks Drive regarding a 
burglary in progress. A perimeter was established and 
all four suspects were eventually taken into custody. A 
16-year-old male from Pasadena, a 16-year-old male 
from Duarte, a 16-year-old male from Altadena, and 
a 17-year-old male from Altadena were arrested and 
transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

 At approximately 6:07 p.m., an officer responded to 
a residence in the 300 block of West Woodruff Avenue 
regarding a burglary report. An investigation revealed 
unknown suspects entered the home through an 
unlocked rear door, they ransacked the location, and fled 
undetected. The residents were out of the country at the 
time of the crime. The investigation is ongoing. 

Tuesday, August 7:

 Around 8:56 a.m., an officer conducted an enforcement 
stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Huntington 
Drive and Santa Clara Street for not having license 
plates on the vehicle. As the driver was searching for his 
identification in the rear of the vehicle, the 32-year-old 
male from Pico Rivera consented to a vehicle search. 
The search revealed a billy club and a records check of 
the passengers revealed a 36-year-old female from West 
Covina had five outstanding misdemeanor warrants. 
Both suspects were arrested and transported to the 
Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

 Just before 9:55 a.m., an officer responded to the 200 
block of West Foothill Boulevard regarding a vehicle 
burglary report. The officer discovered an unknown 
suspect smashed the rear passenger window and fled 
with a bag containing gym equipment. The investigation 
is ongoing. 

Wednesday, August 8:

 At about 12:19 a.m., an officer responded to the 100 
block of East Huntington Drive regarding a public 
intoxication report. The officer located the subject as 
he was yelling and cussing at the location. The officer 
detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the 
suspect. The 28-year-old male from Los Angeles was 
arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for 
booking. 

 Shortly after 12:59 p.m., an officer responded to 
Arcadia Methodist Hospital, 300 West Huntington Drive, 
regarding a battery report. An investigation revealed a 
patient, who was being held at the hospital for evaluation, 
pushed and spit on a nurse. The 48-year-old female from 
Wildomar was cited and transferred to White Memorial 
Hospital.

 Before 8:00 p.m., an officer responded to the 1100 
block of West Duarte Road regarding a stolen bicycle 
report. The victim stated his Fuji bicycle had the lock cut 
and was stolen sometime between Monday, August 6th 
and Wednesday, August 8th. No suspects were seen and 
no witnesses were located. 

Thursday, August 9:

 Around 5:14 p.m., an officer responded to the 
intersection of El Monte Avenue and Norman Avenue 
regarding the activation of an Arcadia Police Department 
GPS tracker. Arcadia PD detectives had previously 
deployed bait packages to combat the increase in package 
thefts from residential areas. An investigation revealed 
two suspects had the stolen bait package in their vehicle. 
A 22-year-old female from El Monte and a 30-year-old 
female from Los Angeles were arrested and transported 
to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. The older female had 
an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

 

Friday, August 10: 

 At about 1:34 a.m., an officer initiated an enforcement 
stop on a vehicle in the area of 400 West Duarte Road 
for driving with his high beams on. Upon contacting the 
driver, the officer saw a large cloud of marijuana smoke 
exit the vehicle. Through a series of tests, the officer 
determined the suspect was driving under the influence 
of marijuana. The 19-year-old male from Los Angeles 
was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for 
booking. He also had an outstanding felony warrant.

 Just before 3:24 a.m., officers responded to T-Mobile, 
101 East Huntington Drive, regarding an audible alarm 
activation. An investigation revealed unknown suspects 
smashed a side window and fled the location with ten 
Beats by Dre headphones. The investigation is ongoing. 

 Shortly after 10:21 a.m., an officer responded to the 
Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding 
the activation of an Arcadia Police Department GPS 
tracker attached to a bicycle. An officer located the 
47-year-old male from Monrovia riding away with the 
$1,600 bicycle and tracking device. The suspect was 
arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for 
booking. 

Saturday, August 11:

 At approximately 7:55 p.m., an officer conducted a 
traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Live Oak Avenue 
and Second Avenue for having an obstructed license 
plate. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected 
a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his vehicle. The 
25-year-old male from South El Monte declined the field 
sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to the 
Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

ARCADIA WOMAN’S CLUB

August 15, 2018 – Arcadia, California. Are you 
interested in meeting new people, making new 
friends, and helping good causes? Do you want 
to make a difference in the community and enjoy 
networking? Arcadia Woman’s Club is a local 
philanthropic service organization dedicated to 
enriching the quality of life. On September 5, 
from 11:00 to 2:00, Arcadia Woman’s Club will 
have an Open House. This “meet-and-greet” will 
be held in their Historic Clubhouse, 324 South 
First Avenue, in Arcadia. The Open House is 
a great way to meet the members of Arcadia 
Woman’s Club and learn about the club’s wide 
variety of service and fun activities. Arcadia 
Woman’s Club members volunteer their time to 
improve the community while making new friends, 
learning new skills, and having fun. Anyone 
interested in joining is welcome to attend. You 
can bring a friend along or just come and meet 
your future friends! Arcadia Woman’s Club is a 
friendly, caring group of women of diverse ages. 
You can choose to be as actively involved as you 
like, based on your time and interests. This club 
has existed since 1914. There are monthly lunch 
meetings, with interesting speakers on varied 
topics, so you can hear about the club’s activities 
and events, including fundraisers and community 
service projects. By the way, the clubhouse is 
also available for event rentals. In fact, weddings 
have taken place in the lovely courtyard as well as 
receptions, anniversaries, and baby showers have 
been held in the large ballroom. Arcadia Woman’s

CATCH THE WELLNESS WAVE HEALTH FAIR

Arcadia Senior Services in partnership with 
Methodist Hospital is having an annual Health Fair, 
“Catch the Wellness Wave”. The Health Fair will 
take place on Friday, September 21, at the Arcadia 
Community Center, 365 Campus Drive. There will 
be information booths and health screenings from 
9am to 12pm. You can schedule an appointment 
for a $7 carotid artery screening by calling Arcadia 
Senior Services 626.574.5130. Free screenings are: 
blood pressure, bone density, hearing, pulmonary 
function test, and more. There will be healthy 
food samples, vendors, giveaways and educational 
sessions including Dr. Rodrigo Rodriguez, 
Neurologist, speaking on, “Stroke, Alzheimer’s 
and Dementia”, from 12-1pm. You can purchase 
a box lunch the day of the health fair for $2. For

individuals age 50 and over.

Warrant / Possession of a Controlled Substance – 
Suspect Arrested

August 9 at 7:06 a.m., an officer on patrol in the 100 
block of W. Palm saw a male subject that had a warrant 
for his arrest. The subject was arrested for the warrant, 
and during the arrest, methamphetamine was found on 
his person.

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested

August 9 at 1:24 p.m., officers responded to a theft 
that just occurred at a business in the 100 block of W. 
Foothill. An officer arrived and was able to stop the 
suspect vehicle before it left the parking lot. The suspect 
was arrested for shoplifting.

Violation of Court Order / Battery on a Peace Officer / 
Resisting a Delaying a Peace Officer – Suspect Arrested

August 9 at 7:01 p.m., officers responded to a residence 
in the 1200 block of S. California regarding a disturbing 
subject. There is an active restraining order against the 
subject and he was refusing to leave the residence. The 
subject was uncooperative and argumentative with 
the officers, and slammed the door on one of them. 
The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into 
custody.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision

August 9 at 7:18 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision 
was reported in the 700 block of W. Huntington. The 
suspect side-swiped a parked vehicle as he was backing 
out of a parking stall in a business parking lot. When 
the suspect realized there was someone sitting inside 
the vehicle, the suspect fled the scene. The investigation 
is continuing.

Commercial Burglary

August 10 at 3:17 a.m., officers responded to an 
alarm activation at a business in the 900 block of W. 
Huntington. When officers arrived, they saw one of 
the north windows had been shattered. The loss is 
unknown at this time until the owner can inventory. 
The investigation is continuing.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested

August 10 at 8:05 a.m., an officer was on patrol in 
the 600 block of Shamrock when he saw two subjects 
hiding under the bleachers in Recreation Park. He 
contacted both

subjects, and one male adult was arrested for possession 
of a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine.

Grand Theft Auto / Possession of a Controlled 
Substance / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 
Suspect Arrested

August 10 at 8:19 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 
area of Mountain and Oceanview regarding a welfare 
check. The caller reported a male subject had parked in 
the area and was acting erratically. He then appeared to 
fall asleep in the truck. When the officers arrived, they 
found the male subject standing outside of the truck. 
He admitted to driving the truck and his personal items 
were inside the vehicle. A computer check revealed 
the vehicle was stolen. The suspect was arrested, and 
during the arrest, he was found to be in possession of 
methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Drunk in Public – Suspect Arrested

August 10 at 9:55 p.m., a caller reported a man sleeping 
on the driveway of a residence in the 100 block of N. 
Myrtle. An officer arrived to check on the welfare of the 
subject and found he was extremely intoxicated. The 
subject was too intoxicated to care of his own safety and 
was arrested for being drunk in public.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested

August 11 at 2:14 a.m., an officer was on patrol in the 
1900 block of S. Myrtle when he stopped a bicyclist 
for failure to stop at a stop sign and riding during the 
hours of darkness without lighting. During a pat-down 
search, the subject was found to be in possession of 
drug paraphernalia. The suspect was arrested.

Brandishing a Firearm – Suspect Arrested

August 11 at 8:39 p.m., officers responded to a residence 
in the 600 block of Linwood regarding a disturbance. 
The subject who lives at the location became involved 
in an argument with his nephew, who was visiting. 
During the argument, the subject brandished a weapon, 
causing his nephew, who was holding his child, to feel 
threatened. The suspect was arrested.

Grand Theft Auto

August 12 at 9:47 a.m., a vehicle was reported stolen 
from the 800 block of W. Duarte Road. The victim 
parked his truck in the parking area for his residence 
in the evening on August 11. When he returned to his 
truck the next morning, he found it was missing. The 
vehicle is a red, 1995 Toyota pickup. The investigation 
is continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

August 12 at 8:29 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a 
business parking lot in the 800 block of W. Huntington 
regarding a vehicle burglary. The victim was coming 
from San Bernardino after being at a marijuana 
convention. He was selling marijuana wax for a 
company and was transporting it back. He stopped off 
at a restaurant to use the restroom and get some food. 
When he came out approximately 20 minutes later, one 
of the windows on his vehicle had been broken and the 
container with the marijuana wax in it was missing. 
The investigation is continuing.

Drunk in Public – Suspect Arrested

August 12 at 8:30 p.m., a disturbance between a 
male and female subject was reported in the area of 
Cypress and Sherman. Officers responded and located 
both subjects. After talking to both of them, it was 
determined the male half was drunk in public. He was 
arrested and held for a sobering period.
