Bowmore (A470047) is
a timid 8-year-old domestic
shorthair with cool black
smoky coloring. When he
came in to the Pasadena
Humane Society as a stray
in mid-December he didn’t
really know what was going
on. He would lay under
his Kuranda bed avoiding
reach with a tense body
posture and tucked tail.
Three months later he’s
doing much better and is
opening up. He isn’t the
extraverted type, and may
never be super confident
and rambunctious. He just
hasn’t let his introverted
tendencies stop him from
a few pets now and again.
He can’t resist the Churu
volunteers bring him so
he’ll accept some pets in
exchange for the delicious
snack. It might be time
for a good book, a glass of
Bowmore Scotch, and some
Bowmore cuddles.

 The adoption fee for cats
is $90. All cats are spayed
or neutered, microchipped,
and vaccinated before being
adopted.

 New adopters will
receive a complimentary
health-and-wellness
exam from VCA Animal
Hospitals, as well as a goody
bag filled with information
about how to care for your
pet.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday;
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday
through Friday; and 9 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Saturday.

 Pets may not be available
for adoption and cannot be
held for potential adopters
by phone calls or email.

Assistance League of Pasadena recognized the achievements
made by 21 Pasadena Unified middle school students on February
27 at the “Very Important Performers (VIP)” celebration. Each
of the seven Pasadena Unified middle schools selected students
who had demonstrated dramatic improvements in academics,
attendance, and citizenship. The goal of the VIP award is to
provide encouragement to students who have chosen to get the
most out of their middle school experience.

JPL Seeking Applicants for
First Space Accelerator

Chamber Set for Annual
Spring Golf Tournament

 NASA’s first aerospace
accelerator program, co-
sponsored by the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory in Pasadena,
California, will select 10 startup
companies to take part in a
three-month pilot program
to develop new technologies
for space. Applications will
be accepted through April
7. Organized by Techstars
with support from Starburst
Aerospace, the pilot program
will enable the selected
companies to collaborate with
engineers and subject matter
experts from JPL and from co-
sponsors Lockheed Martin,
the U.S. Air Force, Maxar
Technologies, SAIC and Israel
Aerospace Industries North
America.

 The accelerator will focus on
technologies that can be applied
to space — including geospatial
analytics, digital design coupled
to advanced manufacturing,
autonomous systems, applied
AI and machine learning. A
main goal of the pilot program is
to help both applicants and JPL
swiftly develop technology that
could be used for future space
missions while also promoting
collaboration between industry
and NASA.

 “We want to assist these
companies in developing their
own technologies and becoming
commercial successes. NASA
will also benefit by collaborating
with these companies,” said
Tom Cwik, manager of the
Space Technology Office at JPL.

 Based in Los Angeles, the
accelerator program begins
on July 15. After developing
their concepts and business
plans over a three-month
period, the teams will then
pitch their results to the NASA
community, co-sponsors and
private investors at a Demo Day
in October.

 “Industry is developing new
technologies rapidly, using new
tools and methods in software
development and other areas,”
said Cwik. “It’s incumbent upon
us to learn from developments
in industry and contribute our
vast expertise in technology as
we prepare to use them in our
future missions.”

Accelerator, visit: techstars.
