WISTARIA THRIFT SHOP VOLUNTEERS THANKED

The GFWC Sierra Madre Woman’s Club thanked the 44 of its volunteer members whose dedication
to running their Wistaria Thrift Shop (the 2007 “best little thrift shop in the San Gabriel Valley” ) at
a special luncheon at its clubhouse on June 26. One of the club’s major fundraisers, the 16 members
of the Wistaria Shop’s Prep Crew are busy July through May curating, sorting, cleaning, pricing and
preparing for display the wonderful stream of donations brought to the shop. The Wistaria Retail
Shop itself is open from September’s 1st Thursday through the end of May on Mondays, Thursdays,
Fridays and 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 10 am to 3 pm. Shop volunteers love receiving your clean, gently
used donations (no furniture) preferably on weekday mornings. In addition to contributing to the
upkeep of the club’s 1914 craftsman-style Essick House, the Wistaria Shop contributes a major portion
of its net proceeds to the club’s Charitable Donations, its seven annual $1,000 Academic Scholarships,
as well as helping to build up its renovation fund. Other SMWC club fundraisers include Essick
House rentals, the recent Jazz & Wine in the Garden, Fashion Show, Lattes & Literature and Games
Tea. SMWC members are also support our community through such events as its July 4th Pre-Parade
Open House, its November Community Prayer Breakfast, the Wistaria Festival and the Mt. Wilson
Trail Race.

The Sierra Madre Woman’s Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was founded in 1907, and has been a
member of both the California and the International General Federation of Women’s Clubs since
1909. SMWC .in addition to our academic scholarships, annually contributes to 26 local non-profits
in the areas of the Arts, Civic Improvement, Community Affairs, Conservation, Education and Public
Safety. Club members meet 1st Wednesday evenings September – June, and 2nd (and sometimes
4th) Wednesdays from September though May. Learn more at gfwcsierramadrewomansclub.org, or
