SIERRA MADRE GIRLS SOFTBALL KICKS OFF ITS 50TH SEASON 
WITH OPENING DAY PARADE AND CEREMONY

Sierra Madre Girls Softball kicks off its 50th Season this Sunday, March 6! Starting at 8am, 
the league’s first-ever Opening Day Parade will roll from Taylor’s Market, down the boulevard 
to Heasley by Sierra Madre Fire Dept to Heasley Field. According to opening day tradition, 
the players will all ride in decorated team trucks, waving to family, friends, and neighbors 
along the way. 

 “It is a day of true joy for the players,” SMGSA VP Brooke Gomez shared, “and at Opening 
Ceremony we will celebrate them and remind ourselves, as adults, they are who we are here 
for.”

 Teams will gather on Heasley Field at 9am for the Opening Ceremony, to be attended by 
Mayor Goss, city council members, the Sierra Madre Womens Club. SMGSA Board Mem-
ber Kate Shore will belt out the National Anthem, and according to SMGSA tradition, the 
league's youngest player will throw out the first pitch to the league’s oldest player.

 Many departments and special offerings have been stepped up this year by the Softball 
League, including Taylors prime burgers and gourmet coffee at the Heasley Diner. In collabo-
ration with Little League and the City, major upgrade projects are planned as well such as en-
ergy and water efficient lights and turf, respectively. All community support is very welcome.

 Sierra Madre Girls Softball Association offers girls ages 5 to 14 the opportunity to develop
