CITY OF MONROVIA NAMED 2023
ALL-AMERICA CITY FINALIST
MONROVIA, CA – The City of Monrovia has been named a 2023 All-America City finalist by the National
Civic League.
The theme of this year’s community recognition program is “Creating Thriving Community through Youth
Engagement, and the National Civil League recognized 20 cities working to improve the health and well-
being of young people, with particular attention to efforts that engage young people in this work. While the
finalist communities represent 12 states and have population size ranges from 4,700 to over 8 million, the
finalists all share a common thread of building the civic capacity of young people. The City will strategically
send a delegation comprised of residents, nonprofits, businesses, government leaders, young people,
and staff to present Monrovia’s story and make a case to a jury of civic leaders.
“This is very exciting opportunity for us as a lot has changed since 1995, when the City of Monrovia was last
recognized as an All-America City. The City has progressed so much in the last 28 years, and I cannot wait
to share our story with other cities and nationally recognized civic leaders. Everything we do concentrates
on serving the people of Monrovia to create a community that offers a premier quality of life. It truly takes
an entire community to support and encourage the success of our youth, and I am proud of what we’ve accomplished
and am equally proud that the City of Monrovia is a finalist for the All-America City Award
once again,” said Dylan Feik, City Manager.
The All-America City judges seek to recognize communities eliminating barriers to meaningful youth
involvement and delivering programs that will enhance the quality of life for youth. According to the National
Civic League, finalists were selected after a competitive review process based on the criteria of shared
vision, civic engagement, inclusiveness and equity, collaboration, innovation, and impact. In addition, each
finalist submitted an extensive application discussing the strengths of their city’s civic capital, collaborative
efforts to enrich programs and services, and examples of three community-driven projects or programs
that have adapted and transformed the community.
Monrovia’s application focused on our annual Youth Employment Services Internship Program, the citizen
and staff-driven ad hoc Committee on Equity and Inclusion, our youth engagement activities, including
Art in Public Places, Neighborhood Treasures Program, the Citywide Park Master Plan, Monrovia Renewal
and other programs and services invaluable to our youth and community.
The City of Monrovia will showcase the highlighted programs in Denver, Colorado, from June 9 – 11, 2023
for the first in-person event in three years. The National Civic League will announce the winning cities on
June 11, 2023.
