ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER
FIRE INCIDENT AND HAZMAT UPDATE
MONROVIA, CA –On Saturday, April 29, at 7:49 PM, Monrovia Police, Fire & Rescue, and other fire departments from
surrounding agencies were dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire near the tennis courts at Recreation Park.
The first arriving fire units determined the fire was located at an aerospace manufacturing plant located at the 800 block
of Royal Oaks. Due to activation of the building’s fire sprinkler system alongside a quick fire attack, the fire was contained
to a small portion of the building.
After initial knock down, fire department personnel determined that water runoff from the fire sprinkler system combined
with chemicals located on-site posed a potential threat to public health and safety, and possibly the environment.
At that time, a HAZMAT response was initiated and fortunately all water runoff was contained onsite. While power is
shut-off at the impacted address, power has been restored in the rest of the area. HAZMAT cleanup will continue as long
as necessary.
We would like to thank the Los Angeles County Fire Department, City of Arcadia Fire Department, City of South Pasadena
Fire Department, City of Glendale Fire Department HAZMAT Team, City of Burbank Fire Department HAZMAT
Team, Los Angeles County Health HAZMAT, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company, Monrovia
Police Department and Monrovia Public Works for their assistance during this incident.
