BRING IN THE NEW
YEAR WITH THE
PERFECT RESOLUTION
-ONE YOU CAN
ACTUALLY KEEP

No doubt if you are reading this, you have an
affinity for the idyllic foothill village of Sierra
Madre. It is a town within miles of the country's
2nd largest metropolis that manages to mesmerize
residents and visitors alike with its beauty, serenity,
opportunities and history. It's a town where you
see every single day people living life to the fullest,
enjoying nature, walking, hiking, and riding their
bikes. You see parents and grandparents strolling
through the town with their children, some of
whom are still in carriages. You see people enjoying
the shops and restaurants in town and having fun
while doing so. You don't see red lights, congestion
and an overwhelming feeling of a fast paced life.

And, every single month, there is an event or activity
for residents and visitors to enjoy. Whether it is the
Wistaria Festival, the Mount Wilson Trail Race, the
Fourth of July Parade, the Halloween Festivities,
Art Shows and more....there is always something
going on for the entire family in Sierra Madre.
Sierra Madre, the 2007 recipient of the national All
American City Award!

Ever wonder how all that happens? Without question
Sierra Madre has the best municipal services around,
the best Police and Fire Departments, the best city
staff. However, that in and of itself is not enough.
The real life blood of Sierra Madre are its volunteers.

Without the generosity of time and talent of literally
dozens of residents and business owners who
support Sierra Madre's civic organizations, this
would be a very different place.

Yes, volunteers are the life blood of this town. It is
the one thing that we always agree on, all the time!

So, about that New Year's Resolution.....make a
commitment to become a part of the solution to
sustaining this great city! There are lots of ways
you can do that and it's actually a resolution you can
keep!

In Section B of this edition of the Mountain Views
News, you can learn a little about the groups that
sustain this community. No matter how long you
have been around, you will be pleasantly surprised
to learn what these groups do and more importantly,
how you can help support them and contribute to
the magnificence of this city.

Think about it......Happy New Year

VOLUNTEERS PUT FINISHING
TOUCHES ON SMRFA'S

"ENCHANTED MUSIC BOX"

The Sierra Madre Rose
Float Association's
2024 entry to the Rose
Parade is almost done!
The 2024 float depicts
a carousel-themed
music box that invites
us all to experience
the enchanted music
of childhood and
the lovely surprise of
a music box. In this
magical scene, one of
the carousel horses
has taken flight and
is soaring off with the
music.

This will be the
93rd volunteer-built
float entry from the
SMRFA. Over the last
18 years, float entries
from Sierra Madre
have won a remarkable
17 float awards in
10 categories.

The finishing touches to float are done by volunteers during Deco Week and local community
organizations and businesses make certain that the volunteers are fed. Beginning
on the day after Christmas, food was provided by the following businesses and/or
groups:

December 26th Casa Del Rey and Nano Cafe

December 27th Only Place In Town

December 28th The Mountain Views News, and the SM Chamber of Commerce

December 29th Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club

December 30th Sierra Madre Rotary Club

Watch for No. 17 in the parade
line up. That will be the SMRFA
float. After the parade, weather
permitting, the float will begin
its journey to the parade route
on Sunday, December 31, 2023
and will go by Kersting Court at
approximately 6:45 pm.

After the parade, the float viewing
will be along Sierra Madre
Blvd in East Pasadena until January
2, 2024.

On January 3, 2024, Sierra
Madre's Entry will be available
for viewing and purchasing of
flowers at Kersting Court or at the Float Barn, again, depending on the weather.
