ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER

For the period of Sunday, May 26th, through Saturday, June 1st, 
the Police Department responded to 914 calls for service of which 
115 required formal investigations. The following is a summary 
report of some of the incidents handled by the Department during this period. 

Sunday, May 26:

1. At 11:31 a.m., an officer responded to the 100 block of North First Avenue 
regarding the report of a vehicle theft. The victim left his Honda Accord parked in 
a lower-level parking garage overnight. He returned to find it had been stolen by an 
unknown suspect. 

Monday, May 27:

2. At 1:04 a.m., an officer patrolling the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Foothill 
Boulevard conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle stopped in lanes of traffic with no 
lights on. The officer noticed that the vehicle had major collision damage. The officer 
contacted the driver who was asleep in the passenger seat. Upon contacting the driver, 
the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from him. Through a series of 
tests, the officer determined the 46-year-old male from Pasadena was driving under the 
influence of alcohol. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail 
for booking.

3. At 1:44 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of West Duarte 
Road regarding a burglary report. An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) 
entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door and ransacked a bedroom. 
The loss was unknown at the time of the report.

4. At 6:58 p.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Baldwin Avenue and Foothill 
Boulevard when he observed a vehicle on the road with expired registration. The license 
plate displayed a current year tab. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle 
and contacted the driver. The driver admitted to knowing that her registration was 
expired and told the officer that her friend made her a fake tab. The 63-year-old female 
from Pasadena was issued a citation. 

5. At 7:05 p.m., officers responded to Nordstrom, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, 
regarding a grand theft report. A loss prevention officer witnessed the suspect concealing 
two coats inside a Nordstrom shopping bag before exiting the store without paying. The 
loss prevention officer contacted the suspect and detained her until officers arrived. 
The 77-year-old female from Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City 
Jail for booking. 

Tuesday, May 28:

6. At 1:02 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 500 block of West Camino 
Real Avenue regarding a burglary report. A landscaper noticed the glass of the rear 
door had been smashed and the alarm had been disabled. An investigation revealed 
every room in the home had been ransacked. The loss was unknown due to the owner 
being out of the country. 

7. At 3:32 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of De Anza Place 
regarding the report of a burglary. The resident returned home to find his bathroom 
window open with the screen removed. Unknown suspect(s) ransacked the home 
stealing a hooded sweatshirt, a backpack, and reading glasses. 

Wednesday, May 29:

8. At 3:18 a.m., officers responded to 7-Eleven, 102 East Huntington Drive, regarding 
an armed robbery that had just occurred. The suspect entered the store and pointed a 
black handgun at the cashier and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene with 
cash and a stolen can of hard lemonade. The suspect had committed an armed robbery 
at the same location days prior. He was also the suspect in five additional robberies in 
the surrounding area that were being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs 
Department Major Crimes Unit. A collaborative investigation led to the arrest of the 
18-year-old male suspect from Covina. 

9. At 8:36 a.m., an officer responded to the 1000 block of North First Avenue 
regarding the report of a vehicle burglary. The victim discovered her driver’s side and 
rear windows had been shattered by unknown suspect(s). The suspect(s) entered her 
vehicle and stole cash and a Burberry jacket. 

Thursday, May 30:

10. At 4:15 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of East Floral 
Avenue regarding the report of a robbery. The victim had just returned home after 
withdrawing cash from his bank when he saw a man running away from his car. The 
victim then realized his cash had been stolen. The victim’s Telsa video footage revealed 
he had been followed home by three suspects, a female and two males. One suspect 
entered the victim’s vehicle and stole his cash while he was busy unloading items from 
the trunk of his car. The suspects fled the scene in a silver SUV. 

Friday, May 31:

11. At 12:01 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of East Las Flores Avenue 
regarding a theft report. The victim was walking her dog when a black SUV pulled 
next to her, and a female passenger asked for directions to the nearest grocery store. 
After the victim gave her directions, the female extended her hand to shake the victim’s 
hand. The female suspect placed a ring on her finger and a necklace around her neck 
to thank her. The victim later realized the suspect stole the necklace she was wearing, 
which had her husband’s wedding ring as a pendant. The female suspect was described 
as 20-years-old, with an average build, dark hair, wearing a white shirt. The driver was 
described as a male, 50-years-old, with a large build, black hair, wearing dark clothing. 

12. At 2:28 p.m., an officer contacted the victim of a theft at the front counter of 
the Arcadia Police Department. The victim stated sometime around noon, he was in 
his front yard collecting mail, in the 500 block of West Lemon Avenue, when a white 
minivan pulled next to him, and the female passenger asked for directions to the 
freeway. The suspect asked the victim to move closer to the vehicle so she could give 
him something to thank him. The victim refused so the female exited the vehicle and 
made several attempts to place a necklace over his head before finally placing a ring, a 
necklace, and a twenty-dollar bill in his hand. The female then ran to the vehicle and 
fled the scene. At that time, the victim realized his necklace had been stolen. The female 
suspect was described as 30 to 40-years-old, with dark hair, an average build, and a 
white furry jacket. The driver was described as a male, 40 to 50-years-old, wearing dark 
colored clothing. 

13. At 8:04 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1100 block of South 
Santa Anita Avenue regarding a burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) entered the home 
by prying the sliding glass door. The suspect(s) ransacked the home, stealing several 
handbags, jackets, rings, watches, fountain pens, and cash. 

Saturday, June 1:

14. At 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of West Wistaria 
Avenue regarding the report of a burglary. The resident heard a chime indicating a door 
or window had been opened around 9:15 p.m. the night before. The resident inspected 
the home but didn’t see anything suspicious at the time. The resident assumed it was 
her husband arriving home. It was later discovered that the rear bedroom window had 
been smashed and a comforter had been pulled outside and placed on the ground. 

FROM THE CITY OF DUARTE

VOTE IN THE NOVEMBER 5, 2024 GENERAL 
MUNICIPAL ELECTION

On November 5, 2024, Duarte residents living in Districts 2, 3 and 7 will vote on their City 
Council representatives in addition to the Presidential election. 

The Duarte City Council is comprised of seven members who are directly elected by Duarte 
voters. The current City Council district map was selected on April 12, 2022 following a rigorous 
redistricting process. The adopted map establishes 7 districts with Districts 2, 3, and 7 up for 
election in November 2024 and Districts 1, 4, 5, and 6 up for election in 2026. Learn more about

Currently, Vinh Truong represents District 2, Jody Schulz represents District 3, and Toney Lewis 
represents District 7. One City Councilmember will be selected to fill the seats in each of these 
districts for a term of 4 years, expiring in 2028. 

The Council serves as the legislative body for the City and is responsible for establishing City 
policies, adopting City ordinances and resolutions, holding public hearings, adopting the City’s 
budget, and authorizing City expenditures. City Council also appoints the City Manager, City 
Attorney, and the members of City commissions and committees.

For those interested in pursuing a City Council seat, the nomination period runs from Monday,

CALL FOR ARTISTS

 

Monrovia, CA – Artists are encouraged to submit a Haiku for the 
2024 Art in Public Places Sidewalk Poetry Contest. This year’s 
contest celebrates the development of Monrovia’s newest park 
which will honor Satoru Tsuneishi. Mr. Tsuneishi was a long time 
Monrovia resident and the first Japanese American to graduate 
from Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte High School. Among his many 
accomplishments, he was a noted poet, including his mastery of 
Haiku. Haiku is a type of short form poetry that originated in 
Japan. It consists of 17 syllables in a 5-7-5 pattern as seen in one of 
Mr. Tsuneishi’s haiku:

 

Ah, tis New Year’s Day!

It reminds me that with me

A new lineage starts.

 

The contest is open to those who live, work and attend school in the City of Monrovia. Entries 
will be accepted through June 27, 2024. 

 

Established in 2004, Art in Public Places supports the creation of public art through a variety 
of programs and projects by sponsoring artists to paint utility boxes, murals, Samson the 
Bear statues and Neighborhood Treasures. Public art adds meaning and uniqueness to our 
community. It humanizes the built environment and is freely accessible.
