LUCKY BALDWIN’S DELIRIUM CAFÉ

For over 60 years, Lucky Baldwin’s has been a
beloved fixture in the area, serving traditional
English fare alongside a fantastic selection of beers.
While there are three locations in the region, my top
choice is the Sierra Madre spot. Why? The answer is
simple: Manager Lisa Brandly.

Lisa is not only the manager but also the bartender,
host, and even a traffic cop on the sidewalk for
Lucky Baldwin’s. Her versatility and dedication are
remarkable, but it’s her warm smile that truly sets
this place apart and makes it a winner.

The history of Lucky Baldwin’s is as rich as its
beer selection. The establishment is named after Elias Jackson “Lucky” Baldwin, a real estate magnate
and entrepreneur in the 19th century. Baldwin made his fortune through savvy investments and land
acquisitions. On a trip to Southern California, he discovered the fertile soil and great climate of the area,
prompting him to purchase the vast land that would become Santa Anita. There, he planted grapevines,
lemon trees, and established 14 artesian wells, transforming the landscape into a thriving agricultural
hub. His legacy continues to influence the region to this day.

But let’s talk about the food—it’s fantastic. The Fish and Chips are legendary, perfectly crispy and flavorful,
a true testament to traditional English cuisine. And the hamburger? It’s one of the best I’ve had in the
area. Juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection, it’s a must-try. Not

Soccer is a big deal at Lucky Baldwin’s Delirium Café. Whether you’re an English fan or not, this is a
great place to watch a match. The atmosphere is electric during games, with fans cheering and celebrating
together. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a pint while catching all the action on the big screens.

Lucky Baldwin’s Delirium Café is a local favorite. On any given afternoon, you might spot my friend
Nial Dalton enjoying a pint and reading the racing forum. The beer selection is extensive, with so many
options on tap that it’s hard to name them all. Whether you’re a soccer fan or simply in the mood for
some great fish and chips or a top-notch hamburger, the Delirium Café in Sierra Madre is your spot. Lisa’s
presence adds a special touch to an already exceptional establishment. Now until the end of the month
they are offering Taco Tuesdays. Just don’t try to seat yourself on the patio. HA HA

THE TASTING ROOM

LOW SUGAR. LOW SULFITES.
ORGANIC. VEGAN.
DELICIOUS.

I’m Gustavo Lira, Tasting Room Manager
and Wine Buyer at The Bottle Shop in
Sierra Madre with another wine and
spirits selection.

More and more people are coming
into the Bottle Shop and looking for
Natural wine. I am proud to say that we
have one of the best selections of Natural
wines (along with Biodynamic, Organic,
and Sustainable wine) in the area. The
Oxford Wine Companion defines natural wines as: 1] Grapes are typically
grown by small-scale, independent producers. 2] Grapes are hand-picked from
sustainable, organic, or biodynamic vineyards. 3] Wine is fermented with no
added yeast – only native yeasts. 4] No additives are included in fermentation.
And 5] Little or no sulfites are added.

If you’re looking for Natural wines
– wines that are deliciously tasty
and don’t smell like a hamster cage
or taste like Kombucha - then come
to The Bottle Shop and I will pick
several out for you. This week’s wine
is one that I recommend you drink
this weekend, especially if you love
sparkling wine to cool you off on a
hot day. It’s called La Jara “Matho”
Bianco Cuvee. A prosecco from
northeast Italy.

La Jara is owned and operated by
brothers Massimo and Paolo Marion.
The vineyard has been in the Marion
family since 1891. It’s organically
farmed using no pesticides or
herbicides. This Prosecco comes
from prime Prosecco country made
with 100% Glera. It’s made in a dry
style – Brut Nature – with less than 3 grams per liter of residual sugar. Compare
that to La Marca Prosecco which has 18 grams per liter of residual sugar. Also, the
Matho Bianco Cuvee is vegan since they do not use any animal-based ingredients.

The wine is fresh, zesty, with aromas of acacia, and green apple. On the palate it
exhibits brightness, elegance, orchard fruit, and floral notes. It’s got complexity
and is refreshingly bone-dry on the finish.

If you’re looking for a Natural wine that actually tastes like wine should, and is
delicious, then look no further. This wine will show you how good Natural wines
can be when made by winemakers who know what they’re doing!

La Jara “Matho” Bianco Cuvee is available at The Bottle Shop for $15.99. Say you
saw it in the Mountain Views News and get it for $14.99 through Monday, July
22nd.

Coming up at The Tasting Room – 7/21 (3pm) Chablis & Sancerre, 7/25 Great
Values Under $15, 7/26 Italian Wines with Marco Ballarin. Reservations are
recommended, walk-ins welcome based upon availability. Scan the QRCode to

Until next time – Salud!

ALAN WATTS

Alan Watts was an English writer, speaker, and
self-styled "philosophical entertainer", known
for interpreting and popularising Buddhist,
Taoist, and Hindu philosophy for a Western
audience. He had a profound influence on
the West. He received a master's degree in
theology from Seabury-Western Theological
Seminary, & became an Episcopal priest in
1945 In 1950 he moved to California, where he
joined the faculty of the American Academy
of Asian Studies. There are many Alan Watts talks on Youtube.

The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple.
And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to
achieve something beyond themselves. “The physical universe is basically
playful “

“We do not "come into" this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the
ocean "waves," the universe "peoples." Every individual is an expression of the
whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe.”

“Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the
universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the
universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence.”

I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the
present, which is what there is and all there is.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and
join the dance.

You don't look out there for God, something in the sky, you look in you.

“Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no
comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly
arranged constellations.”

“What I am really saying is that you don’t need to do anything, because if you
see yourself in the correct way, you are all as much extraordinary phenomenon
of nature as trees, clouds, the patterns in running water, the flickering of fire,
the arrangement of the stars, and the form of a galaxy. You are all just like that,
and there is nothing wrong with you at all.”

“God likes to play hide-and-seek, but because there is nothing outside of God, he
has no one but himself to play with! But he gets over this difficulty by pretending
that he is not himself. This is his way of hiding from himself. He pretends that
he is you and I and all the people in the world, all the animals, plants, all the
rocks, and all the stars. In this way he has strange and wonderful adventures,
some of which are terrible and frightening. But these are just like bad dreams,
for when he wakes up they will disappear

“No amount of anxiety makes any difference to anything that is going to happen”

Some of his books are: The Wisdom of Insecurity, The Book on The Taboo of
Knowing who you are, The Way of Zen, Tao: The Watercourse Way, This Is It,
The Meaning of Happiness, Becoming What You Are, The Nature of Man, The
Joyous Cosmology
