Damage assessments still being conducted.. Restrictions on parking have been eased, however as heavy equipment is working on clean up and restoration of services, residents are asked to avoid parking on the streets. (See details on page 2). The Sierra Madre YMCA on E. Sierra Madre Blvd. is a resource center for fire victims and a location for donations. The Sierra Madre community have City Manager Reynoso, Water Superintendent McGee, Chief Bartlett, Corporal Shaw, and Public Works Director Yanez provided the community with updates regarding the Do Not Drink, Do Not Cook Water Order as well as Eaton Fire updates. Firefighters continue to extinguish hot spots in steep ...inaccessible ... canyons near Winters Creek ... Mount Lowe ... and Mount Wilson. Crews and water dropping helicopters are also working in unison to extinguish any remaining heat in those areas. The fire has burned more than 14,000 acres in the Altadena and Pasadena areas since it began on January 7th. It has left at least 16 people dead ... destroyed nearly 8700 structures. and damaged 938. CITY OF SIERRA MADRE WATER SYSTEM experienced wildfire impacts and may have fire-related contamination. As a precautionary measure, this notice is being issued until test data is available. DO NOT DRINK-DO NOT BOIL YOUR WATER Failure to follow this advisory could result in illness. The CITY OF SIERRA MADRE WATER SYSTEM NUMBER 1910148 is located within the EATON FIRE wildfire impact zone; however, the City of Sierra Madre never lost system pressure in any water zone, and the City did not suffer any damage to its critical water infrastructure. The City was able to maintain pressure in all zones within the water system throughout the event. The City conducted an initial assessment of the water system with routine bacteriological samples taken throughout the water system. All samples were analyzed by a third-party certified lab and found absent of coliform bacteria. As a precaution, the City of Sierra Madre is now required to test for Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs), including benzene. The State Water Resources Control Board, Los Angeles County Health Department, and the City of Sierra Madre are advising residents of the affected area to NOT USE THE TAP WATER FOR DRINKING AND COOKING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Due to VOCs ability to vaporize at lower temperatures and become airborne, residents are advised to: • Limit use of hot water. • Limit shower time/bathing, and do not take baths (use lukewarm water and ventilate area) • Use a dishwasher to wash dishes and use air dry setting • Wash clothing in cold water • Avoid using clothes dryers (dry laundry outdoors) • Do not use hot tubs or swimming pools • Do not use ice from automatic ice makers • Use proper ventilation when using water indoors What should I do? • DO NOT DRINK YOUR TAP WATER - USE ONLY BOTTLED WATER. Bottled water should be used for all drinking (including baby formula and juice), brushing teeth, and making ice and food preparation until further notice. • DO NOT TRY AND TREAT THE WATER YOURSELF . Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants, or letting water stand will not make the water safe. • A limited amount of bottled water is available at the City Hall.
